YES! Excellent move Brad. A 7th round pick is essentially worthless, it's slightly better than future considerations trades. Now we can finally start pushing older veterans like Stajan and Brouwer to either play harder night in and night out or even to the press box.

Without a doubt our bottom 6 is our weakest link. So good work Brad for making smart, low risk moves. Even if both Stewart and Shore don't pan out, at least it only cost us a 7th.

I like our bottom six depth now. Shore competes and if Stewart is motivated he can compete hard too. We need hard workers in the bottom six to create energy and with more bodies on the roster you now have to play hard or eat popcorn.

Sad when a waiver wire pickup and a 7th round pick can transform the look of the bottom half of the roster, but here we are.

Gaudreau Monahan Ferland/Bennett
Tkachuk Backlund Frolik
Ferland/Bennett Jankowski Stewart
Stajan/Lazar Shore Brouwer

Keep Mangiapane up on the 3rd till Ferland gets back. Keep Lazar and Hathaway as our 12/13th forwards. Send Glass down

7th rounder for NHL depth is great!
I guess Ottawa really wanted a bag of pucks.

For a team that sees its window opening, but also recognizes themselves as a bubble team, I think the moves today are pretty good.

Look at what the other bubble teams are doing. St Louis, SJ, LA. With a dogfight left for the final playoff spots, all made significant/confusing moves. Im okay with the Flames standing pat.

Hamonic and Smith were the big moves for this team.

Whether it works out or not, I like the attempt to upgrade the bottom 6 without giving anything up.

I am happy we didn't move one of our 4 d-men prospects.

The more I looked at their play and pedigree the more I was worried we would make a mistake by trading one of those guys.

I do have a feeling the backend of this team get's rebuilt at the the draft - with Kulak, Brodie, and Stone all options to potentially move.

Seems to have a nice, quick release and decent hands. I like it.

15 points in 49 games for LA before he was traded to Ottawa. That's a better points-per-game than Hathaway has this season. Plus, Shore is almost a year younger than Hathaway.

It's almost like saying why not get a new graduate to do the work when you have a 15 year journeyman who's got that experience.

It's a win now attitude - youth comes second when depth is needed. Great day for Flames as they pick up two right hand shots. Shore is also a center, so no harm in that when you can throw on two centers - one shoots left and the other shoots right. For a 7th rounder - pfff, that's better than giving up a first round pick for a complimentary piece.

Well, prayers are with the Flames' offense now.

Let's hope Stewart or Versteeg remember a thing or two about scoring.

Nice bet on a controlled asset. He’s good defensively, right-handed, and low maintenance. He’s shown some flashes of offense in the past but at 25 likely isn’t going to improve much in that regard. A solid depth centre going forward at the right price.

If anything picking up a young, cost-controlled bottom 6 NHL center heralds the end of Stajan.

I personally think (just my opinion) Shore is much better than Stewart. I would put Shore on the 3rd line with Jankowski immediately. With Shore being acquired, I don’t know why they’d ever play Stewart once Versteeg and Ferland are back.

Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Bennett - Jankowski - Shore
Versteeg - Stajan - Lazar
Brouwer
Hathaway
Stewart

I'm okay with this. Can't reel in a big fish, go out and solidify the bottom six.

Still though, tough to see the forest from the trees when all the other west teams were going toe to toe with made stronger moves.
