Or they were interested in talking extension prior to agreeing to a trade.

I get you're happy that we didn't give up prospects for a rental but him going to SJ is probably the worst team he could have gone to.

When was the last time a team actually improved after landing Evander Kane?

A first for a rental like Kane is pure insanity. Glad the Flames lost that battle.

High price for a rental. Still, I’d have liked to see him in Calgary. Just the kind of player we could use in the top 6.

I think if they get Thornton back for playoffs Kane could be a major factor.

Hopefully Tre really drove that price up. I heard San Jose was definitely interested in Kane, so hopefully they gave up a good roster player and a 1st.

Imo this might be the clincher.
Negotiations like that are time consuming. Go with the bird in the hand from SJ

Could have been, but we've been well past that type of deal coming together for some time, so I still say they wouldn't have been working the phones this morning to finalize the trade.

Selfish player. Hurts every team he's on. I fully expect SJ to bomb even if he puts up numbers

Cheering that we didn't land him as a rental, especially now that the price has been revealed.
How is that "weird"? No one actually cheered that SJ might improve from this.

My guess is 1st rounder is conditional upon signing an extension with SJ

No kidding. SJ is 2 points up on us right now and just improved. Not great news for Calgary.
Hopefully he doesn't click with the Sharks.

I can't see them winning the cup...just gave away their 1st rounder IMO. And people complain about Hamonic

Lottery protected first? Sharks aren't a lock to make playoffs right now
