TheAthletic seems to think that 2nd + prospect is the best you're going to get for Kane, I'll stick with that for now.

He's a rental, who scores around 20 goals, and who wants something north of $5M on his next contract. I don't think anyone is giving a first for a rental, especially a second/third liner.

Watch the Flames trade for Karlsson. Blow everyone's minds.

Cap space is tight for these teams^^
Calgary - $1,600,000
LA - $3,000,000
Anaheim - $3,000,000
San Jose - $4,700,000

From the Conroy interview, it didn't sound good for Ferland TBH. Sounds like Smith will be back before Ferland.

Was thinking about this. Do you really believe these four players would each return a first round pick plus more? I kind of doubt it, but their value to the Flames may be what you are suggesting.

Look at what Hartman just got, and he's a 3rd line winger. Those 4 all look positioned to be top 4 d-men. You rarely see guys like these moved.

Not really. You have to remember that cap hit is prorated this time of year. The Flames could add $7.5 million in cap hit today and still be good. The other teams can add a lot more.

Karlsson is a -30, and not the first time he's logged a -30.
He may rack up assists like no one else on defense, but clearly at the cost of some defensive warts.

Hartman is an RFA. Kane is a UFA. Big, big difference.

I'd add to this - Hartman is also younger, so there might be some potential there still.

+- is a trashcan stat in this case, Karlsson is good defensively, it's not his fault his team is owned by Melnyk. He is a Norris level D-man.

If Kane gets a first, it'd probably be conditional on winning a cup.
