If Mike Smith is really injured for any extended period of time, then either stand pat or sell. This team hasn't shown itself to be a contender or even a solid lock for the playoffs, so there is no point in trading off assets for rentals.

Ttade assets for longer term pieces? Maybe, but the prices seem crazy high this year.

If its a first round exit or worse I hope we get one of D.Sutter, AV or Quennville.

Assuming the last 2 are available.

Sadly, I think Sutter might be right about the Backlund line being a great 3rd line on a cup winning team.

I love Darryl.

Sutter or Vigneault as our head coach next year makes me a happy fan.

Half the trades will roll in around and after the actual deadline, as per usual.

I expect the Flames activity to become known no earlier than noon.

I think the lack of early trades today is a good sign. Could mean nobody is willing to pay high prices. Could see some good deals late.

Pretty sure this is pretty common thinking about the flames from most.

I think that's probably closer to the truth than them being a second line on a cup winning team

John Shannon was already tempering Sabres' fans expectations on the return for Kane, which bodes well for us I think.

After watching highlights from pretty much all the 2018 Sabres games last night, I'm even a bigger fan of Kane. That guy crashes the net, has a good shot, and very good hands.

Some teams might be waiting for the waiver claims too.

Or it's just that this happens every damn year. Crickets for hours, a few trades around the deadline, a few trickle in after, maybe one "major" one that isn't really all that major.

Why don't we ever learn?

And then people are surprised when all the pending UFAs that weren't moved today are re-signed in the off season and free agency day is underwhelming.

Interesting timing... you would think the Flames would have liked clarity on this before the deadline.

Wes Gilbertson @WesGilbertson
#Flames winger Kris Versteeg (hip) will meet tomorrow with his surgeon in NYC, timeline for his return to action should be more clear after that follow-up.

Don't have to be a seller to get picks. Smart teams know when to make the right moves.

Yeah...OUR cup team.

Mony, Janko And Backlund down the middle seems better than what Nashville had going into the finals last year.

Flames have a practice at 10AM. Will someone pull a Wideman-esque prank this year?
