"Shoot my cows Please"

http://www.cbc.ca/story/canada/national/20...ows_041116.html

Wow things are looking pretty grim for those cattle farmers. Of course letting hunters shoot cows is the STUPIDEST idea i have ever heard of. Isn't there a more humane way of killing a cow? I'm sure it would take lots of shots to kill a cow. how do they do it in the slaughterhouses?

I would think that would be illegal?

I don't really know the process to killing a cow in a slaughterhouse, but I'm sure it ain't with guns...well...99% sure.

A metal rod is smashed into their skull at really high speeds, basically takes the place of a .22 bullet to save money.

ummm kinda gruesome but at least they won't feel much pain. Besides can you eat a cow after you shoot it? won't the meat be full of shrapnel and gun powder? i have no idea about guns. i should watch more CSI. hehe

Did you even read the article? I'm guessing no. The whole point is that people can come out and shoot a cow and then go eat it. The eating it part is what is illegal, because it basically ammounts to selling uninspected meat.

And yes of course you can eat a cow after you shoot it. A 1-2 gram bullet inside a 1200 lb cow isn't gonna contaminate anything. What would be the point of hunting if you couldn't eat what you shot? Trust me, I've shot and eaten many things and not only are the edible, they are generally TASTY.

BBS I agree completely, actually the best meat I have ever had has to be deer. It was so damn good, and it was really quite lean. Bear on the other hand from what I had was tough, and not really good. I really wonder what free-range buffalo would taste like though.

It's a cow!! not a deer or a moose. It walks like 1mph.
As a hunter wouldn't you want something more challenging?

I never said anything about actually wanting to do it. The whole idea is that it is more of a "Come shoot your own cow and get a good deal on the meat". I don't think the farmer or anyone else for that matter would think that actually hunting a cow would be a good time.

Yeah, but I would assume it's something you could do with relative success after driving to the farm in a pick up, and guzzling a 40 of rye.

I think his gripe was regarding hunting a captive animal. I could be wrong.

Okay, I don't think any of you are gettting the point. No one is actually saying come out and hunt a cow for sport. The idea is that the guy doesn't want to sell his cows to a slaughterhouse becuase he isn't getting paid hardly anything for them. So he wants to let people come out and kill thier own cow and take it home. Hell, I'll bet he'd even be willing to kill it for you. The reason he's getting in trouble is that he isn't lisenced to sell meat (As it has to be inspected). The guy is trying to sell his cows for meat for a greater price than he can get elsewhere, it's not as though he is trying to actually intice people into thinking this is a great hunting experience. I'm pretty sure any referecne the guy makes to hunting cows is just a little bit toung and cheek.

The only way for this to really catch on is if they let people shovel and shut up as well, simply shooting doesn't offer enough appeal. If they could somehow get Ralph's name attached it would be even better.

One shot. Right in the skull. Saw my dad do it.

I know this (cute) girl in Edmonton and she claims it's very good. She does live in Edmonton though, so take it for what it's worth.

I'd trust "uninspected" beef from Joe Alberta farmer many times over that of (insert name of any Vietnamese, Chinese, Japanese, Szecheun or buffet resturaunt) where the beef comes pre cooked in a bag then heated and served.

Oh, and that crackle and pop you hear is the angry and outraged PETA people crunching granola bars while trying to invade Alberta, climbing East through the Rogers Pass in a backfiring 1978 Diesel VW Rabbit.
