You could build a team around these 8 players and still be better than the Oilers.

There is just got to be something wrong with Chris Stewart we don't know. The guy has everything to be a solid 2nd line power forward; yet no team wants him for too long.

The problem with Stewart is he is streaky and has a very short temper, he will take stupid penalties at the worst of times. He is like Kassian, just not as crazy.

I was confused seeing Breen's name because I didn't think he was in the NHL. It turns out he's in the same situation as Goloubef.
He has been playing in Providence on an AHL deal. The Bruins have now signed him to an NHL contract, so he needs to clear waivers in order to continue playing in the AHL.

I have always been against acquiring Stewart because he is lazy and inconsistent.
However, he is a UFA at the end of the year. If you can pick him up for free, and have him in the pressbox with the expanded roster, and swap him and Hathaway in and out of the lineup to keep them both hungry and motivated, I would absolutely be interested in that.
Pick him up, ride him for the spring run, and let him walk in the summer.
I don't see any downside to that.

I'd be interested in claiming Stewart.
Inconsistent, but when he's on he can dominate. Could be a an asset in a tough playoff series too.
12G + 10A in 35 games against Calgary in his career, most points against any team so I wouldn't hate having a Flame killer with us instead of a division rival.

I think claiming Stewart would be a good move. He is a UFA. The only downside is if he does well and Treliving decides to re-sign him.
He seems to always do fairly well when he goes to a new team. A motivated Stewart is quite effective. Plus, with the remaining Edmonton games, it would be nice to have someone to push them around and get them off their game.
This is such a low-risk move. If he sucks, you bench him. He is gone next year.

I'm surprised Stewart was waived. Thought he was having a decent year in Minny. Doubt he's still available when it comes to the Flames turn but who knows. Lots of skill there just not a lot of motivation.

I would put a claim in for Chris Stewart for free rather than pay the price to acquire Evander Kane.
Flames RW depth is abysmal and lacks toughness.

The three toughest forwards on Calgary play RW. Aside from Ferland, those three don't produce, it's true, but Stewart isn't the answer for that.

Oduya and Burrows waived before trade deadline...possibly to make roster room for the Karlson fallout?

Nope. It's to hurt Burrow's feelings.

Minnesota is in the thick of things battling for a playoff spot and they threw this guy away for nothing. Does that not tell you something? I will be extremely disappointed if Chris Stewart gets claimed by us. If you thought Brouwer frustrated the hell out of this board wait until this guy shows up...or doesn't show up I should say.

I've never been impressed by Stewart...he seems to take selfish pims too often...some guys are coveted for no apparent reason, or, are picked up by teams two years after their "sell by" date. I recall the 'Hawks lusting after John Madden, for years, but, although he was on the 2010 SC team, he was an expensive bottom 6 guy, that just clogged the path for younger guys with upside, and was not re-signed for 2011.
On Bouma, he was ok as an energy guy, but, the 'Hawks are looking to get younger and faster. Bouma was never going to be better than the 11th or 12th forward, and likely has peaked, even though only 27.
Some guys, like Burrows, seem to me to be like "Trojan Horse" kind of players...doing damage to the teams that pick them up! (I'd be leery of E. Kane, and Stewart, too, for chemistry issues (see Kane vs. Byfuglien, when both were Jets)).
