Spooner had no chance of getting extended as he is a RFA after the season. Lindgren was behind Lauzon, Zbroil, Johansson, and Vaakanainen. McAvoy, Carlo, and Grzelcyk are already in the NHL. They didn't give up anything that's going to really hurt them.

What an overpayment for Nash. Stand pat, Tre. If this is what Nash costs...

I actually think it was a really good hockey deal, the Rags are rebuilding and can use the players and the assets and the Bruins are going for it right now.

Suits both teams' needs.

The 1st for a rental is always steep, but they're going for a deep run so it wasnt going to be all that great of a 1st anyways.

That's a huge price for a guy that's never been much of a playoff performer. And he doesn't even have 30 points yet this season.

I think so too. It is definitely a good return for the Rangers, particularly as they're likely to flip Spooner as well.

Do the flames try for Spooner? Fast and skilled for the 3rd line? Kind of a more developed Mangiapane.

Spooner is averaging 77% offensive zone starts this year and an average of 62 % on his career all while averaging 14+ minutes a night. No way do I want him on our team the guy was heavily sheltered on a good Boston team and failed to produce given the amount of opportunity he was afforded.

It's amazing how dumb GMs can be sometimes. Everyone and their dog knew that was a stupid contract before the ink was dry.

Failed to produce? Isn’t the guy putting up a 53 point pace? That’s pretty good production for a guy who's only on playing 14 mins a night. I get that he’s sheltered, but it’s not crazy to assume that he’d be a 60 point player if he was on a top 6 role. The Flames are devoid of natural playmakers and I think we could use a player like this on the 3rd line.

Spooner has steadily declined in each of the last 3 seasons, has had injury problems and has been extremely sheltered his entire career. His best season was when he posted 49 points as a centre and has since been moved to wing where he has slowly declined ~ this year he's shooting at an almost 13% rate too so his numbers would be worse if he was closer to his 7 % career average before this year. No way would I want to give up assets for him.

I don't see why the Bruins retained salary on Beleskey, they paid a big price for Nash but couldn't have added just a little more to not have to retain?

Interesting that pretty much all the big trades are happening in the Eastern Conference. So far.

Except Spooner is putting a better ppg pace than his last 2 seasons, so I think the declining talk is premature. As for injury problems, he’s had some this season, but had 2 full seasons the years prior. His career average is also 8.3%, not 7%. You’re selling this guy short a lot here just because you’re not a fan of his advanced stats.

Last couple games I saw him play, he has some decent skills and there could be some untapped potential here. If we were to acquire him, he’d probably be a winger anyway as Jankowski’s size up the middle is too important to shift away from.

Spooner is very much overrated. A poor defensive player, he was more of a salary equalizer than a sought after piece.

A likely 2022 Olympic participator.

So Spooner, a 1st a midling prospect and dead weight? seems like a creative way to say traded for a 2nd and a prospect. I dont know, I like this for Boston.

Not exactly sure what you’re insinuating here. But the NHL will be going to the Olympics in 2022. Both the NHL and NHLPA want to go for various reasons.

I dont know, I tend to find that the Western Conference tends to beat the hell out of each other only to lose to an Eastern team thats been waiting for them.
