I hope Kane gets a chance somewhere, I think he could turn it around, but I hope it’s not with us. I’d rather we get someone else, someone who’s not as much of a risk

I would love to get Kane. Fox and a lower pick seems very reasonable.
Gaudreau-Monahan- Bennett
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Kane - Jankowski - Ferland
Lazar - Stajan - Brouwer
Versteeg
Bring on the playoffs

That would be fitting for Calgary.

I thought he was hitting his usual pace, and just needed a good team to blossom? That means raise.
Seriously, I will bet he wants a raise. He's not taking less. Now if he's hits the UFA market, he might get a shock, but maybe not, since he'd probably end up being one of the top available guys.

Maybe it says more for his character that he hasn't come out to the media and said he absolutely will not sign in buffalo, kinda like karlsson did to Ottawa, but no one questions his character.

well, Evander Kane for one:
Quote:
Kane, however, clearly wishes things were different.
He's in the final year of a six-year, $31.25 million contract he signed with the Winnipeg Jets in 2012 and confirmed to The Buffalo News this week what has been widely assumed: The Sabres have never negotiated with him on a new deal.
"Does it surprise me? Well, I've said many times nothing really surprises me," Kane told The News. "This is all part of the business. Both sides. We're in different situations and I understand it all. One thing I've always said is that I've really really enjoyed my time here and will continue to do so for as long as I'm here. My focus is simply game to game, keeping the focus narrow."
|
As for the notion that he wouldn't have signed an extension with Buffalo, Kane himself disputes that too:
Quote:
Kane left no doubt he would have entertained negotiations on an extension if the Sabres had approached him and his representatives from Newport Sports Management in Mississauga, Ont.
"Of course I would have. Absolutely," he said. "I've said from Day One I've really enjoyed the time here. For me, it's a place where I've grown to know more and more about Buffalo. It's been a real great experience for me. I'm just going to continue that until I get told something different."

Its one thing to give guys a third chance, its another to pony up 4 assets with was the previously published asking price by Botterill...
Quote:
Last week, TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported Sabres general manager Jason Botterill sought a first-round draft pick, a prospect and a conditional pick. On Tuesday, his colleague Darren Dreger followed that up in saying there are teams claiming Botterill also wants an NHL roster player included in that package.
|
https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/nhl...155114048.html
at that price, do you really want to roll the dice on Kane? As a UFA, if you interview him and have your leadership group involved then sure... but that's a completely different scenario

I also have doubts that Fox would want to sign here. Don't get me wrong, I think he's an even better prospect than Valimaki. He has a high ceiling and he's a pretty good bet to make the NHL.
But I don't see why he'd want to compete with Andersson, Valimaki, Kylington, Stone, Kulak, Bartkowski, and Wotherspoon for a bottom 2 role in the NHL.
He'd have much better chances somewhere else. He also likely wants to finish his 4 years at Harvard. I think the Flames should trade a defense prospect, but hopefully not for a 20 game rental.

The trade deadline nuttiness has gotten to me. I admit it.
I would be immensely pleased if we could replace Hathaway with Kane and Mangiapane with Iginla.
Hopefully by EOD Monday, we can all look back at the events of these last few days and chuckle about it.

Wait what? Every player in the NHL looks for a raise, they might not get it, but they certainly will take it if it offered, especially if this is their first time on the UFA market.
Guaranteed he wants a long term deal worth more than what he’s making now to set himself up for life like every other big ticket UFA.

Kane checks off so many boxes for the team - speed, grittiness and a good shot.
However, IQ issues (Eichel has taken off since Kane was moved off his line IIRC, and Kane has completely dried up) and (lots of) rumored character issues makes me believe he is a poor fit. Why doesn't a rebuilding team even try to re-sign a 26 year old power forward with speed?
If he came nearly free, I would be ok with it. You take a chance and see how it works out. However, I am very uncomfortable throwing good assets at him. I would rather those same assets in a package for someone better who you don't have to be worried about.
Also, Kane WITH an extension makes me even more leery. Imagine he comes with a 3-6 year deal, and he completely bombs in Calgary. Good luck trying to get rid of him then. That's what makes me very uncomfortable when it comes to Kane.

I don't think you trade Stajan. He has been playing well, and is a good depth piece right now. Klimchuk and Lomberg aren't upgrades on anyone on the team right now, Managiapane is decent, but also not an upgrade.
You trade Stajan for a pick, you make your team worse right now. That 4th line is plugging along nicely now, and I wouldn't want to disrupt that. Of course he isn't untouchable by the slightest stretch of the imagination, but I would want much more than a 4th or 5th round pick to disrupt what has been a pretty good line for a stretch now.

Bring in a forth line Center that doesn’t ice the puck twice a game and let the other teams top line hem us in would probably result in a win or two in the playoffs. Seriously I don’t believe there’s anyone who ices the puck more frequently than Stajan. And he’s supposed to be a vet. Drives me crazy

Well, watch Stone for a game.
Half of Stajan's icings are probably because one of his poorly skilled linemates misses the pass.

Hearing that the Detroit Red Wings are now getting significant interest from a good number of teams around the league in Tomas Tatar. #TFP
