Flamss looked pretty unimpressive but ran into AHL-calibre goaltending from Varlamov tonight while Gillies was adequate. I'll take the W but I would like to see more next game, especially from the top line.
Maybe you can tell us a story about how cornmeal came to be.

Big win, but can’t take the foot of the pedal now. Even bigger game against Dallas on tuesday and then probably a pissed off Colorado the night after. Good to see Frolik and Backlund get off the schnide. When this entire line is playing confident, they make us so much harder to beat.

They did exactly what they were supposed to and but for a 3 minute stretch choked the Avs out. It was an impressive way to win for a team that struggles with 60 min efforts especially against weaker teams.

What more could Gillies have done besides that fluke goal he let in?

Making the 3 hour trek for this one. Reeeaaallllyy hope they at least put an effort in unlike the Edmonton game.
Giordano is usually good for a goal against us, probably short handed, too, so we're already down 1-0.

did you hear the little snicker when they said Siemens had the assist or was that just me?

After that lucky goal from Mack, Varly basically gets a Mulligan on that first goal. He's been solid the last 2 games and was hung out to dry on that 2 on 1 by lazy back checking from our forwards. He still looks a lot slower than years past going side to side, but I'm willing to give him more leeway considering who we're icing on defense and Zads sudden dip in play.

Unfortunately this looks like the end of the road playoff wise. I'm not as upset as I thought I would be. Happy with what the team accomplished this season overall. A definite step forward. The teams surrounding the Avs for the final wild card spot are just better teams. I think we'll be right there in a few years.

Seeing that Colorado is on Calgary's tail, you'd think they'd come out with some jump but they look like they have boulders tied to their feet. Calgary already up 2-0.
Edit 1: Mackinnon just scored on a floater from about halfway between the Flames blue line and the centre line
Edit 2: Colorado hits two posts on their powerplay and Calgary scores on theirs. That Nikita Zydorov is one terrible defenseman. He makes Benning look competent.

Quite a funny post, I had a few chuckles. When the team scored 5 goals, FIVE, it's not because the team played well, it's because the other team's goalie an AHL-calibre goalie. And then, when the team's goalie had a .966 save percentage, that's just adequate. WOW, I guess the goalie has to have shutout every game for him then.

Don’t even disagree with this. Flames have played considerably better games and Varlamov wasn’t at his best. Zadarov pretty much cost his team a couple goals by himself and if the Avs dangerous PP had connected which it was close, the game could’ve been different. But I’ll give credit where credit is due, the team choked out that 3rd period to perfection.
