He had to pay up for Bouma after a 16 goal season, he bailed two seasons later when he couldn't live up to it which was understandable since that 16 goal season was the most goals Bouma had scored in any season at ANY level. That's right, Bouma wasn't a prolific scorer even in junior. The fact that he couldn't repeat his 16 goal season was a surprise to no one, but he had it at exactly the right time. Lucky him.
Ferland on the other hand has shown offensive ability at lower levels, so the fact that he's found some scoring touch in the NHL isn't nearly as surprising, and much more likely to be sustainable.
He's also on pace for nearly 30, not just a meager 16 goals.
Not really a good comparable in any way.

Eklund claiming that rangers may be at least willing to listen on offers for Lundqvist and that the flames may be considering it.

That cap hit is embarrassing.
He's 35 years old (36 in days) and his contract is 8.5 mill per for 3 more years after this... thankfully its Eklund spouting this crap but man that would just be the absolute worse direction to take this team in.
Zuccarello I'm definitely interested in though ~ he would be money with Johnny/Mony

We gotta stop posting his crap. Why would the Flames be interested in a goalie that has a cap hit of 8.5M for the next 3 years.

^^ lol ~ I love his OEL to Toronto crap too that he posted before this Lunqvist bull.

OEL and TML?
One source who knows Lamoriello well speculated to me that Lou's style is more about distraction with McDonagh while he works on a player he really wants....Oliver Ekman-Larsson...
I do agree...not a rumor, just a hunch based on years of covering these things...
More to come...

Sens healthy scratched Odyua. Boucher acknowledges this is to keep him healthy for the deadline.

I could see Oduya going to a team like St. Louis or Vegas

Calgary - Ryan (25 percent retained), Oduya, Hoffman
Tampa - Karlsson, (pays Ryan retention)
Ottawa - Johnson, Brodie, Ferland, Tampa 1st, Brouwer, whomever is the best Tampa AHL prospect is.

I was thinking that there might be a fit for Ryan and the Flames but then his NMC will be real problematic for the Seattle expansion draft.
I don't think the Senators will be able to move him because of that.
You'd have to package a first round pick WITH RYan to trade him because they team that takes him will probably have to pay Seattle that to take him.

Here are the players I am going to other teams with in trying to improve up front.
Ferland, Frolik, Stone, Fox, Kylington, Gillies(only if Smith is coming back), Mangiapane
A couple packages there that could get us a first and second line wing

For some odd reason, Ryan’s NMC does not require protection in the expansion draft. I don’t know exactly why, but the Sens did not have to protect him.

Joel Ward hits trade market. SJ has asked for his no trade list. Ward can block 6 teams. List will be submitted within 24 hrs. Good vet.
John Shannon @JSportsnet
Hearing that the Lightning aren't the only Florida-based team kicking tires on Ryan McDonagh...the Panthers appear to be interested too.

It's because it's not the full-NMC that everyone is picturing.

There is a scenario where Ottawa Senators winger Bobby Ryan can also be exposed to Vegas. When he signed a $50.75-million, seven-year extension in October 2014, it was widely reported that his contract included a no-move clause, but the language in that deal actually stipulates no movement to the minors and gives him a modified no-trade list, according to a source.

That would imply someone actually sees Plekanac as useful enough to trade for at this point, which I just don’t believe. I realize the rumours are flying, but really? How does he help?

Pretty clear that Tre isn’t interested in trading significant pieces for a rental, so we can probably forget about going big name hunting. But would anybody here be interested in trading for Benoit Pouliot? I doubt he’d cost more than a late round pick or a forgettable prospect.
Pros:
- Cheap cap hit
- Expiring contract
- Excellent skater with size
- 5th on his team in goals while playing 3rd line minutes and PK
- Can play up an down the lineup including center
- Good penalty killer: Oiler’s PK has tanked without his help
Cons:
Prone to taking penalties, but has curbed that down significantly with only 8 minor penalties.
Personally, I think he’d be worth taking a shot.
