I'll really start to lose faith if we lose the next few games. We have a fairly easy schedule for the remainder of the season, but with this team there is no game that is easy. We better be able to beat the Coyotes tonight.

Do you really believe this team is capable of beating the Sharks, Avs, Blue Jackets and Knights on home ice the rest of the way?
Bottom line: another 5 or 6 game winning streak is essentially the only way I can see this ship righting its course to playoff hockey.

Yes, I do think they can beat those teams.

They’ve lost 1 more game than they’ve won, and hold no picks in the top 2 rounds.
It’s on the brink of disaster, and they came out and played the way they did last night. This team doesn’t know how to compete, they know their structure, and that’s all.
This organization is ill. Diagnose it, and fix it.

If the flames can go on a run all it means is a first or second round elimination... you honestly think we can get past eitherthe ducks or Vegas Ina 7 game series let alone anyone from the central?
I want to have hope but I haven't seen anything in this team that makes me believe they can do it. You unfortunately can't have JG out there for 60 minutes

Trading your first round pick and being on the outside looking in is a disaster.

The Dome is loud. Sure, not in the 3:40 mark of the second period of a january game vs the Wild, but in a good entertaining close game in the third period, fans are very much into it.
The Flames have been in a bunch of those games and had the crowd behind them, then found ways to lose st home. So that doesn't help.

Don't go to many other NHL rinks eh?

Ha and the flames are going to have to go against newly acquired Kuemper tonight. Pretty much guarantee Kuemper steals a win.

One game at a time and it starts tonight against the Coyotes.
There is going to be a lot of ups and downs the rest of the season with things being as close as they are. A quarter of of the remaining 141 games that the playoff pack teams have are against each other. That means that in a quarter of the games remaining, barring not all of them go to extra time, they will be taking points away from each other.
This is fun.

Get older, and like every single player, not be as good at hockey. Do you really find that fact so personally offensive that you need to treat him like an a-hole?
Stajan is right, the fans on the road cheer harder than the fans at home. It's an ugly phenomenon. Season ticket holders have made so many comments in threads that they're fed up with this team and they don't want to bother going to games anymore. You know what? You can stop going any time. Give those seats up to a fan that really wants to be there. Even if attendance drops overall, at least those fans that do show up would cheer with some enthusiasm for their team, EVEN IF THEY AREN'T PLAYING PERFECTLY. Some of you have such ridiculous expectations for this team that they are probably playing like they're walking on eggshells for fear of upsetting the fans even more.
Give Stajan a break. He doesn't deserve this kind of treatment. Cheer for the friggin' team, regardless of how every game is going or how the season is going. Get off your hands and use your voice.
/end rant

Listen man, I meant what I said. Stajan can hit the road any time now. I've given up every ticket to a home game I've had this season to a friend and his son who still enjoy going to the 1 goal snoozefests.
I am not the one with "ridiculous expectations" of this team Cali. The coach said they were a 100 point club. This doesn't look like it will be the case. They basically need to win 15 of 21 games to hit that. The GM has traded everything up to the 4th round of this year's draft.
I'm not going to give Stajan a break. He shouldn't be on the team or in the NHL anymore. He's done. This is the last guy who should be saying anything about the fan base.
Lastly, I am cheering for the friggin' team. I want them to dump their dead weight and push to improve. Stajan will be fine sleeping on his piles of money this team has paid him.

30-22-9 or 30-31 if you want to peel back the onion, is just a joke for a team with the top end talent this Flames group has at all positions. Make no mistake, management, coaching and players saw this group as a 100 point team and this is why they went all in trading draft picks and mortgaging the future - which all but ensures more organizational depth problems 3-4 years down the road.
Barring an immediate and substantial turn-around, if missing the playoffs after all that has been said and done is not a disaster, what is?

In the game thread, some were claiming the Flames’ forward depth was as good as Vegas’. If Hathaway is our substitute for Ferland as first line right wing, we’re nowhere near Vegas’ depth.

Even if we squeak into the playoffs, does anyone think it's going to be anything but a complete pulverizing? If we get that 8th spot, I can't imagine how at least four games in a row are going to go against the likes of Winnipeg, Vegas, or Nashville.
Reminds me of getting shelled by the Ducks last year. No thanks.

They didn't get shelled last year. If this team does somehow get hot and makes it in, I would have no problem playing Vegas with Mike Smith in net

Smith in net last year = the Flames beat the Ducks.
I haven't seen a team yet this year that the Flames didn't show that they could handle. The games they've been blown out - they've played others against the same team that tell me they can hang with them, even the Bruins or Lightning.
Vegas can be handled. The Flames should be 1-1 against them, and Smith in net (or Rittich with a decent game) makes this one pretty different.

@DarrenWHaynes: Wednesday in Vegas was the first time since they've been a trio that Gaudreau-Monahan-Ferland combined for 0 shots on goal. #Flames top line has not produced an even-strength goal in six games*.
* Gaudreau even-strength goal on Feb 13 came while he was out with Stajan and Lazar.
https://twitter.com/DarrenWHaynes/st...91482001317888
@DarrenWHaynes: Broken down by line, #Flames even-strength goals over the past six games:
- 1st line | 0
- 2nd line | 3
- 3rd line | 3
- 4th line | 3
Interestingly, through goals scored mid-line change or the result of line juggling, Matt Stajan has been on the ice for five of those nine goals.
--------------
There was probably only one game where that gamebreaking was needed (Boston in Calgary), the others were team wide disappointments in allowing so many goals (5, 6 and 7 goal allowed in losses).

Gaudreau looked OK last night. The other two didn't. Monahan was decent defensively, and in the dot. Too bad he didn't get that goal, because I think it might have started a new hot streak for him.

Ferland was replaced by Hathaway for at least 4 shifts. Ferland a fallen off a cliff, goal scoring wise and there needs to be two players on that one who cannot the chances that JG creates or creates space for.
But again, there's no one thet really can step up into that role, except for maybe MT. Versteeg could do it, even Jagr did it before his first injury. Ferland has to catch fire but it's been almost 15 games without a goal. Not going to cut it for a team that has one main line of scoring.

Sucks to lose but I'm not worried. 4 of the last 5 games were against the top 4 teams in the league with our back up goal tender. Even with Smith, I don't think the Flames are at that elite level yet.
I expect we'll rebound and have a good stretch coming up and hopefully that pushes us back into the playoff picture.
