I’ve been all over the place with Gully. I’ve defended him, I’ve loathed him.
If things continue to trend the way they are at the moment - there’s no way he can come back next year. The way in which he’s handled their special teams (he answers for his coaching staff) is enough reason for dismissal, let alone the other issues. He can’t motivate this team worth a damn. Outside of a 10 game winning streak last year and a 7 game winning streak this year, this team has been utterly lost.

I barely watch games anymore. We aren’t a fun team to watch and I don’t have much hope for this team to do any damage even if they do make the playoffs.
Following live reactions on here is pretty entertaining though.

Karlsson being given three feet of space in all directions to tip the puck however he pleased was kind of embarrassing to watch.
Hope the guys remind themselves that it's the stretch run now. Time to play their best hockey of the season. That period certainly wasn't it.

Didn’t see it. Too busy trying to figure out the Flames penalty.

Someone at the game make a sign: Change up the lines. It isn't working!

That's not gonna happen until Gulutzan is gone. So hopefully there's more of that next season. You have to play north-south to be effective. Keep the opposition on their toes rather than let them settle. It's also why the PP has been so inept. The team just plays sooooooooo slow.

Ha ha. No. That's just made up by people that simply can't come to grips with the fact that superior coaching is largely the reason for their success. Their depth is average at best and defensively they aren't even close to the Flames in depth.

This is not a great hockey team! Special teams are awful. Coaching is worse. If the Flames make the playoffs, they are done in the first round. You all whine and cry, but then defend. Make up your mind!

You're not overly negative at all. I had you pegged all wrong. Totally normal to not watch the games and then coming to a forum to throw shade about it.

For sure the Flames are not actually slow -- but.
GG's "style" or "system" seems to be an intellectual one, carefully thought out etc etc. The problem is, players can't be thinking when there is no space or time, so the system doesn't work.
Someone made a comment about the other GG's system (Gerard Gallant) that the thing is to make a play - any play - and make it fast. I'd add that it's almost always about moving the puck up-ice, too. Fast. No thinking - just look for a sweater and fire it. Works pretty well so far.

Yep. Every line/pairing is contributing on this LV roster. Can't really say the same for the Flames.

I just want to point out Micheal Ferland. When he is on, great, he's doing the thing as top line RW. But when he is off, he is the dopiest, dumbest player on the ice. heads in the clouds missing simple plays. He's been in that funk for a while now. top line RW needs to snap out of it! Far too inconsistent. need more from him for all 82 games.

Special teams need to get better. Hopefully Versteeg will get the power play improving. Not sure the return of Brouwer is a help for the PK. As long as they keep him off the PP...

It's insane. I think at least five of our six D (everybody sans Stone) should be playing a hyperactive style.

This will not happen but put Tkachuk on either Monahan's or Bennett's line. This team's RW are anemic of late in making any plays. Physical play yes (Ferland, Hathaway) skating (Frolik) but no plays.
I'd like to see Tkachuk with Bennett.
Also open up the attack. Brodie jumps up and creates the only dangerous chance. Enough of this boring chip n chase hockey all the time. Use the skill on the team, carry the puck in and make some ####ing plays.
Ugly first period. 1 rush chance.

Most of these guys are players other teams didn't even want to protect. Florida gave them the biggest boost with Gallant and Marchessault though.

This is hindsight narrative.
Look at their roster. Their bottom 6 is almost entirely composed of guys that couldn't crack the lineup of their prior team. They have 2 2nd lines and 2 4th lines.
Either they were all wrongly evaluated by their last organization, or they are playing in a system that allows them to compete, and they are playing with confidence. Which seems like the more plausible?
I, for one, do not think all the other GMs are idiots.
