Really depends on the return... They are already in a dark place, and Karlsson's peak years will likely be wasted there. If the plan is to retool/rebuild, having a player of Karlsson's calibre is an excellent trading chip.

Then we promptly lose Karlsson to free agency next summer and are stuck having traded all those young pieces for Bobby Ryan under contract until 2022.

I just don't see any viable way the Flames get Karlsson. Never have.
The absolute last thing the Flames need now and for the foreseeable future is another RHD.
He's not the guy we need to sell the farm for.

The more you detail how terrible it would be the likelier you're making it!
STOP FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!
I'm feeling worse and worse about the Flames making a save the season type deal and then crying into my beer in the next 5 years as Adam Fox lights it up for some team I already hate.

Agreed. If a deal involving Brodie and Hjalmarsson could involve Tobi Reider as well that would be most excellent.
Brodie, Mangiapane, Wotherspoon for Hjalmarsson and Reider? Flames add a cherry like Shinkaruk or Austin Carrol or Pollock, someone who likely won’t ever dress for the Flames.
Edit: I guess this a “ our junk for your best” kinda offer but it has Brodie going the other way so doesn’t that make AZ the winner in the deal?

Looks better than the TB package.

Personally I like Fabbri more than Palat but I like the rest of what Tampa Bay has to offer way more.
I actually don't see Brodie being traded. Gio has said he's his best friend on the team, involved in the community, about to have a kid. Don't think management makes a move with him included unless he asks to get traded back East to be closer to family.

But in my scenario Fox stays.
(and we extend Karlsson - I didn't think we'd need to spell that out).

I really don't want to see Mangiapane as part of any trade deal cause I think he's going to make the team probably next year and be a 25-30 goal scorer... He's just not ready yet

Prior, yes. Would we count on this being true moving forward? I'm not so certain.

He wouldn't sign here, that's the thing. He's going to get $11M+ on a Cup contender.

In my scenario, Brodie goes elsewhere. And I feel like Reider is being over rated here. Ideally, trading Brodie gets you a Saad, then you trade prospects/futures to ARZ for Hjallmersson which is what I think they're aiming for there.

Yeah, I can see him ending up in Washington or NYR (even if the rebuild, throw him some money to get butts in the seats and play with fellow countryman Hank). If he were to go to a western team, I could see Dallas or maybe Vegas. But not Calgary.

Yeah, both good points.
I'll go back to my old position. Maybe Flames can be the 3rd team/taker for Ryan with some salary retained and picks or prospects coming along with.

I hope you're right but I can't remember the last time the Flames graduated a 25-30 goal scorer from their AHL affiliate. I think you'd have to go back to the 90's to find one.

Just you watch Wizard get it done for less than that and resign Karlsson to an extension for only $7M/year! Just to spite your comment!

Karlsson up to #1 on the Trade Bait list. Dreger and MacKenzie both saying 50/50 chance he's dealt.
Man I'd be furious if I were a Sens fan.

I'd be concerned, but I'd wait until he is actually dealt and to see what the return is before I became furious.

They’re rebuilding at a time when they can actually maximize their returns opposed to waiting until all they get is Morgan Klimchuk and a couple of failed prospects.
The Sens aren’t a well built team. It’s better they take thw time and build the team properly than try and move forward without a foundation. On the flip side of this, the Habs are in an even worse position. I’d be more pissed as a Habs fan than a Sens fan - because at least the Sens are moving in a direction rather than aimlessly wandering in futility.

Maybe furious was the wrong word. Frustrated seems like a better fit. They were a goal away from the Stanley Cup finals and 9 months later they're in 3rd last and maybe trading arguably the best defenseman in the game.
