At the game today. Some observations. Rittich is the real thing. Thought Bennett played well. Brodie too. The worst Dman today was Hamilton - too many giveaways in his own end. That guy has to improve big time on the defensive side if he's going to evolve into elite. Frolik is suffering. Tkachuk worth the price of admission for the first 2 periods when the rest of the team was sleeping. Can see why the Flames are using Lazar - but not sure we need both lazar and hathaway in the bottom six.
Overall - Bruins are WAY faster and crisper than the Flames. Its not even close. The score should have been a runaway Bruins. Take the point and move on.

A fine but not a good effort from the Flames. Things were looking real bleak in the first, so at least they woke up.
- Great work by Rittich. Can't fault him on the OT goal, and he'd already saved two breakaways during the game. Good mental bounce-back game as well.
- Frolik going through a rough patch.
- Have to give credit to Lazar. I had no idea what he was doing out there game in and out, but has been noticeable last 10-15 games for me.
- Brodie is a fantastic skater but just doesn't have good offensive instincts. I'm happy he got moved off the PP. I'd go even further and just bounce between Gio and Hamilton in OT and leave Brodie as last resort.

He's been on the ice for three more even strength goals for than against. That doesn't mean he's been a good player this year.

For the record nobody is saying we should trade Brodie straight up for Oduya but if you can trade Brodie and a small add for Oduya and Hoffman you jump on it imo. I have seen Oduya play this year and he has seemed fine to me.

On the boob tube it did not look that extreme. I didn't think the Bruins were in top gear though.

Live it seemed like the Bruins were breaking up the middle of the ice almost at will most of the game. Large portions of the 1st period when it was 5 on 5, it was like Boston was on the PP

It kind of annoys the #### out of me that after winning a President's Trophy in 2009, a Cup in 2011, playing in another Cup final in 2013, having a 117 point season in 2014, and what equates to 5 out of 6 100+ point seasons from 2009-14, the Bruins have already cycled down and retooled into a young, fast Cup contender again.
Yet here the Flames are, plodding along just being the "Flames".
All rebuilt and mediocre as ####, just like always.
At least we're not the oilers I guess, but come the #### on already. When do we get a real contender to cheer for, instead of an average to maybe slightly above average team full of holes and riddled with inconsistency?
End rant.

Agree
I yearn for the days I get to watch the Flames as a top team.

Rebuilt an mediocre as #### without a 1st; 2nd or 3rd round pick.
It was good to get a point against a really good team but yet again something is missing with this team. No panache.

Thought Brodie and hamonic had a pretty good game.
Bennett bad once again. Shots going 5 feet wide. Need more.
Lazar looks good again in 4th line role. Stone struggled.
Ferland terrible. Worst flame. Just awful.
Rittich, wow, awesome.

How long did it take the Bruins to build that team though? The same constant is Bergeron and Marchand

i think you are looking for problems there. Bennett had some close chances including a crossbar, had some jump, and was throwing his weight around in the offensive zone.
Ferland was pretty much invisible.

its amazing really, what good drafting and developing can do.
they drafted Kessel in 2006 and Seguin in 2010... number 5 and 2nd overall respectively...
since seguin 7 years ago, their highest pick was dougie at #9...
gotta tip your hat to them... of course, they aren't infallible - they could have drafted Barzal, Connor and Boeser in 2015... would be an unbelievable haul if they managed that!
that's why i am not a fan of trading picks... hamiliton i get but Hamonic seemed like an overpayment at the time and he hasn't changed my mind about that on the ice.

That's not the point.
The point is they built a contender, won a Cup, cycled down and QUICKLY retooled into a contender again.
Meanwhile, the Flames can't even build a legit contender to begin with.
In 30 years!!!
Anyways, I didn't want a debate on it, just wanted to vent.

This is spot-on. Since the mid-90's, we've had one season of being an "elite" team (2005-06) but crashed and burned in the first round. I've been waiting for another year like that ever since. A year when fans can be confident that the Flames will play consistent smart hockey, and show up against their top rivals. I'll always be a Flames fan but this pattern of being a mediocre team that either just misses or just makes the playoffs is getting old.

Yeah, but Kessel was their pick.
They flipped him for the other two and were able to draft Seguin and Dougie early in the draft while simultaneously being a cup contender and winner.

And they did this while trading us Hamilton for picks that have yet to amount to anything.
Sigh...
