I was listening to Bob Mckenzie's podcast, and he brought up a couple names that might be available. Thoughts on bringing in Nyquist or Tatar? Tatar still has 2 years at 5.3 and Nyquist has 1 year at 4.75.
Sounds like the cost would be somewhere around a second and a prospect. Flames could try for 2 prospects maybe?
Sure, why not?
Thinking from how Treliving makes trades there would have to be cap going back to Detroit with contracts like that.
So that mean's Brouwer $4.5 mil (unlikely #GGVeto), Stajan $3.125 mil, Backlund $3.575 mil, or Frolik $4.3 mil.
Those are the most obvious contracts to move keeping in mind the Flames do have roughly $7,300,000 in cap space to work with and resign some key players in the next few years.

I would love Tatar on the Flames. Been impressed with him ever since seeing him at the World Juniors a few years back. Nyquist I am not as high on but would be interested depending on cost to acquire. Nyquist not that great defensively from my viewings.

In a similar deal to yesterday's Phanuef-Gaborik trade. I think I'd consider a Bobby Ryan trade if only if they retained 50% on his deal and if they took on the last 2 years of Troy Brouwer as well.
Ottawa showed yesterday that they're willing to lose a trade right now to save money (real dollars). A Bobby Ryan (50% retained) and Troy Brouwer swap saves Ottawa $6 million in total dollars owed and for Eugene Melnyk, that's a big deal. Cap hit goes up, but I doubt that's a big deal to the Senators who will be pushing out big contracts this off season anyway.
Bobby Ryan looked really good in the playoffs last season (16 pts/19gms) and a new environment could rejuvenate his game. A big body who can skate, score and make plays as a right handed shot would be an improvement over Troy Brouwer. It's a very palatable cap hit at $3.625 as well. At worst, the buyout amount wouldn't be crippling either.

I think that rumor was de-bunked or at least it was clarified that other pieces were involved apart from Bouwmeester
Pretty sure the "other pieces" were Detroit wanted Feaster to retain salary. Big bone head move on his part thinking the extra salary and 1sts would amount to quality player pick ups in summer .

I wonder if this would be an issue in the event of Bobby Ryan's acquisition:
I believe Burke and Ryan cleared the air so no, that wouldn't be what prevents a deal.
Also Tre would be making the deal
Do you really think Treliving doesn't consult with upper management before making any deal? Ever work in the corporate world? Bureaucracy is everywhere - especially in the old boys club.
I think Bobby Ryan’s impressive playoff run that had his team 1 goal away from the Stanley Cup Finals shows he has some ability to play in intense games. He was the Senator’s best forward and certainly didn’t shy away or fold under the pressure during clutch situations.

So just out of curiosity a few days ago you watched 1 period and a bit of Hoffman and informed everyone that limited sample size was enough for you to conclude we should want no part of him.
Yet there are massive stretches of underwhelming play from Ryan over the last few years and that's no issue?
Just trying to follow along. It's perplexing given Ryan's being expensive (I'm not sure Ottawa retains on him after retaining on Phaneuf) as well as the term attached to a player who's turning 30 next month.
Also think he's currently on IR?

All about cost of acquisition. Clearly Hoffman is the superior player to Bobby Ryan. But is giving up a Valimaki or an Adam Fox along with a 1st round pick + possibly something else worth it? I don’t think it is.
For me though, ridding our self of Brouwer’s contract and his cement feet for a right winger who can still skate, score and make plays sounded pretty enticing. I read Eric Duhatschek’s recent article on the Athletic and he softened me on the idea about bringing in Bobby Ryan.
At the end of the day, with how few assets we have. All and any creative ideas that can improve the team should be explored.

Bobby Ryan is not a very good skater anymore either and even when he was younger he never really had any more than very average speed.

Anyone who thinks Brouwer is going to waive to go to Ottawa is living in the Twilight zone. That is a sinking ship and no veteran is going to want any part of that if they have anything to say about it.

That's fair, I just took your comments to mean Hoffman wasn't of interest regardless which seemed bizarre on on such a limited sample size.
While ridding Brouwer's contract might make it palatable, I see no reason why Troy would waive to go to the tire fire that is Ottawa.

Well he’s never been a burner. Probably closer to a power forward. But he still has tremendous skill and a nice set of hands. He can still move though as evidenced by the play he makes on this breakaway goal last spring.
