Flames were right there but as has been the case all season, special teams changed the entire feel of the game.
Brodie made some typical dumb plays that resulted in a goal against. Giordano had an amazing first and second period but man he was bad in third.
Monahan, Ferland, Backlund and Frolik were all pretty ineffective also.

I'd like to see Gulutzan make some adjustments everywhere:
- I think Brodie should be on our top PK unit as he's simply been a better PKer than Gio all season.
- I think our team is too easily scouted because they never shuffle the lines
- i have no idea why we still do the same abhorrent **** on the PP, even though we scored a PP goal doing NOT THAT a game ago.
- I am still not sold on our style of play. I look at the Bruins, and I look at us, and we're what the Bruins were in the last few years under Claude Julien. I think we need our Bruce Cassidy.

I refuse to believe that Kris Versteeg makes that much of a difference to a powerplay that has Johnny Gaudreau, Sean Monahan and Matthew Tkachuk up front.
If you can't coach this PP unit to at least a league average PP% you don't belong in this league.

Besides the PP, some troubling things.
Ferland 1 goal in last 13.
3M line has been poor this last stretch and today was terrible.
JG with a world class goal that my guess is no one else on the roster can manage, and points in 7 straight for yet another streak....for naught.
Like Bennett, Ferland start needs to be feeling the heat from someone else...at the beginning of the year, Jagr took some shifts on the top line....and that seemed to kickstart Ferland (and Jagr got his first injury soon after).
Problem is, right now there's no one that's playing nearly well enough to push him.
If Flames don't have JG and the first line, and a second line, they're going nowhere...so time for BT to pull the trigger on one or two moves to get some more competition in the top 9. Not sure if can wait for Versteeg and hope he's that answer.

Detroit holds on to beat Anaheim in regulation at least.
So ANA and LA fail to get any points tonight as well.

Some of the things you post are just mind boggling. This is like saying I think Matt Stajan should be our centre on our top PP unit because he has simply been better than Sean Monahan. Where do you come up with this stuff...are you just trolling?

This was a perfect example of two different teams from coaching, special teams, tenacity, structure, leadership.
Where the Flames really are and where they want to be.

I'm sure his five assists, plus a sixth one that was taken away after a game, mean absolutely zilch in your eyes.

Broken record: Gaudreau on the right side on half wall for the PP. Magic will ensue.
Flames play way too much on the boards. The Bruins are very good, they used the middle of the ice and took advantage of leaky coverage by CGY.
Flames need to skate a lot better especially to start games.

Those are going to JG, who is playing lights out. We need more goals (and more timely goals), and as JG is lights out this year with whoever is playing with (his goal tonight was double shifted with Stajan) we need the other 2 guys on his line to be able to ride the wave pot the chances he gives them, or the space that he provides for those guys to get chances themselves....especially if we've not got much consistent help from the second line scoring.

If San Jose somehow loses to Arizona at home, it's actually a pretty decent night.

I can not stand how cowardly our team is (with the exception of Lomberg). Marchand grabs Froliks face protector, and no one punished him. Schaller's slew foot on Rittich gets no reaction.
We are weak, other teams know it, they get under our skin and we don't fight back. A few games ago Johnny gets laid out hard two games in a row and no one reacts. It seems like something is missing from this team. I wish we had Engelland still.

Most elite players have 1 goal in 13 game type streaks and Ferland is just fresh off his first 20 goal campaign and looking to add to it - he has still had great things over that stretch like that great assist on Gaudreau’s goal against the Rags. He’s been a bit snake bitten but is still creating space for Johnny.
Also the 3M line was rough tonight there is no doubt - but they were the hero’s a night before - the biggest issue isn’t this team 5 on 5 or this team’s specific lines (very rarely do u see all 4 lines firing on all cylinders) but it’s our PP; it’s lost is a good 8 games this year easy and that’s what seperates us from the top teams in the league. With the likes of Johnny, Mony, Gio, Hamilton, Tkachuk... this PP shouldn’t be struggling.

Well that was kind of a fun game.
Pretty good effort from bennett out there tonight. Hathaway looked like he was playing for every person that had driven down from Kennebunkport.
Hamilton has been better.
Brodie, yeeeeeeeeeeeeeeesh.

Backlund is a great Center but this game shows just how good Bergeron is. Guy probably deserves to win the Hart trophy at some point in his career, best Center in the league defensively and still produces offensively.
Power play continues to be this teams biggest issue just turns around momentum in games every single time.

Yeah, I didn't think Gio was at his best tonight but how anyone could watch this season and say Brodie would be a better option on the PK (or any situation) is beyond me.

Meh. If you looked at their schedule recently you'd probably expect this one to be a loss, so I'm not too upset. Yes, they could win and it would be nice if they would have won, but if you're going to beat elite teams you usually need to bring your best game.
The Flames looked pretty good at times, not so great at others. Won't cut it against a team like Boston.
The PP is still........you all know. I'm at the point now I just don't expect anything from it at all anymore. Kinda sad.
Thought Rittich played pretty well. The next one's a big one, hope they can play a more complete game and grab an important 2 points.
