Rangers have already said they are looking for a 1st in return. Unless they are willing to take some prospects and maybe a 2019 2nd I don't see it happening.

Don't want any rentals anyways. Just throwing assets away for a couple months of a player.
That and overpaying aging UFA's for past production while they are just about to start declining are two of the stupidest things GMs do on a regular basis.

I have a hard time imagining this team spending a lot on rentals when Treliving has consistently been making big purchases only when the asset fits into the short and long term plans of the team. Hamilton and Hamonic are here for several more years and Smith is around for another one as well.
Even for depth, it's hard to say that deadline deals often help out. Even less so for the premium rentals.

Even in acquiring Stone they knew they were getting a guy that would very likely re-sign with the team given his personal situation.

What was Stones personal situation? He needed a job?

His wife is from Calgary and so is all her family apparently. Not to mention IIRC she was pregnant around that time, so having family close by is/was a major selling point.

LeBrun on TSN says he knows that the Flames would love to add Hoffman but doesn't think there is a marriage between Calgary and Ottawa there to get that deal over the hump.

Well, we know now they're hunting for a top nine fw.

Ottawa knows they have to hit an absolute home run if they're moving a big piece after they lost the Duchene trade by miles.

Even before he signed he was looking at a house here. In fact, I think it was before the trade.

I like Hoffman, and he certainly would improve the top 9, but anybody else hope they get a true RW instead?
I'm not saying for trade deadline but in general.

I would be very surprised if we didn't acquire a top 6 RW. It's just such a glaring hole in our roster, especially with the lack of PP finishers. If this team is actually in win-now mode, we cannot ignore the right side.

and who is that going to be? I have a feeling top 6 players with term, are not going to be traded by the deadline unless its a huge overpayment. THere really is no reason for the team to trade players with term left, right at deadline. T

The market is saturated with potential pick ups. On the high end there's Patches, Kane, Hoffman, Stone, etc. There are tons of options and I'm sure if we are actually in win-now mode we will have no problem parting with one of our young d-men in a package for someone.

Well, one more game to go before I figure Treliving pulls the trigger on bolstering this roster. Hopefully they can get a W on NSH.

After looking at the Phaneuf deal... we need to be trading with them while they are still nuts... just wow what a bad trade.
Nick shore is 8 years younger than Thompson but is a 3rd line almost tweener with 220 games under his belt at 25 years of age; not worth it when they are retaining 25% of Phaneuf’s salary for 3 years; and Gaborik?!?!? 4.875 for the next 3 years AFTER this year AND he’s 35... 14 point oft-injured Gaborik who has 69 games being his most played in a season since 11/12 with every other season in that time frame being 56 games or less...
Unreal bad trade.
