Oil so far out of the race that their fans don't even post Flames salt in their ATL thread anymore

Here's a good one from yesterday.

"One thing I will say despite the standings, our team has 1500% the heart the Flames have.

Outside the Oil, I watch a lot of Van Calg WPg games: Flames are the most likely to cave with the lead, the least likely to get physical, least likely to get in a scrum and throw a fit, least likely to show aggression. If they make the playoffs they won't be going anywhere as they aren't built to win playoff games.

I still have a bit of hope for us making the playoffs but if we don't I'm just going to write this season off as a stumble along the way to bigger things. If the Flames had to deal with the adversity we did this season with the bad reffing, unfair schedule and injury/flu they would be below Arizona in the standings. I'm proud of our guys and would match them up with the Flames in a playoff series any day. Playing safe doesn't get you anywhere in this league!"

But-it's a broken play. Gaudreau whiffs, puck goes off defender and deflects to Bennett.

Kudos to Bennett, he made a snap decision to make the right play, and then, executed.

That might be an example of Bennett 'feeling it' and having success.

Either way, the reason you don't see it happen often on the PP is generally because it's a play that's isn't really open very much for teams that collapse low on the PK. The Flames are like that, you'll see hamilton bent at the waist when the puck is in the corner to create a barrier with his stick so the play to the front of the net is low percentage. Kris Russell gets down on his stomach which has dubious effectiveness in my opinion, but it's another example.

I'm just rewatching the sequence again and what's actually more impressive is the chance Janko/gaudreau/bennett generate just before the goal. They have a shift together where Janko just about scores off a rebound from a gaudreau right wing chance. That's how the PP is drawn up, and it looked super dangerous.

This is probably my longest PGT thread post of all time.
Disagree. I've watched a few teams use that play successfully. The key is quick movement of the puck. Teams take it away when the puck is held too long.

On the plus side, we just limited the second highest scoring team in the league to only 25 shots. If we continue to play like that, Rittich (or whomever plays) should be just fine...

Yeah. Blocked a bunch of punches with his face.

The only dangerous chance the isle got all night was the Eberle breakaway. Smith was actually real shakey all night.

We've gotta give him every opportunity to add points. EN situation? Put Johnny out there. I really wanna see a Flame snag the title.

It's been a long time coming but you really have to recognize Tkachuk as a force on his own. Nevermind having the previous dream of a one-two punch of Monahan and Bennett down the middle, having the likes of Gaudreau and Tkachuk terrorize defenses in their unique talents is such a treat to watch.

Thanks Jim Benning.

Since hockey is a write off for them, they've probably turned their attention to the Olympics. At least they're cheering for their country instead of greasy overrated dumpster fire. Better use of energy, I'd say.

Tkachuk is an absolute beast on the Boards and within a few of the net. When he starts to fill out a bit more with age, the sky is the limit.

frolik needs to put the damned game away there. it's been years of this crap. part of killer instinct is scoring with the other net empty. the number of one goal games the flames are involved in are again inflated by the fact that we are terrible at putting the game away.

am i seeing my own confirmation bias on this? one EN goal so far this year and two last year. we play a ton of one goal games.

sorry needed to get that off my chest

EDIT: after reading the thread it looks like i'm on the wrong side of history with my take. just really frustrated seeing a franchise goalie helped off the ice with one second left. needed to vent i guess

Great win (other than Smith). Lots to like: Tkachuk of course; Bennett and Jankowski had their best games in a while; Hamonic and Brodie were great; and the D overall did a fantastic job shutting down a great offensive team.
