And I mean that. I think Todd McLellan is a con-man with little to no actual coaching skill to speak of and I still dont believe that a competent coach could do any better with that group of pathological losers.

Not to mention they have $55M tied up into 9 player’s next season with their best defenseman Nurse needing a new contract. They better hope Puljujarvi or Yamamoto don’t get too many bonuses or they’ll really be in trouble.

Katz has all the money in the world. I bet he's fine with paying Todd while he's gone if he can bring in a guy like Q. Also think Q won't do much for that team anyway.

Common misconception. People with lots of money didnt tend to get that way by writing a lot of cheques or spending frivolously or allowing their subordinates to waste their money.

Oh totally. But in this case I think if Kevin lowe and co think Q is an upgrade over Todd. He opens his cheque book for him. Mcdavids contact kicks in next year and I bet expectations are going to be at an all time high. Either way Edmonton is no good.

Were they not already? And it cant be said that Katz hasnt opened his chequebook thus far, hes paying a small handful of players an enormous chunk of his team's cap.
You are correct however, Edmonton is indeed...No Good.

I believe Todd is making 3.5M, second highest in the league and Charillei is making over 6. And who knows what Bob Nicholson is making. So he's paying those guys pretty decent coin.

Well Nicholson is getting coin, but so is Lowe, Gretzky and now Coffey.
And what on this earth makes it that McLellan is the 2nd highest paid coach in the League? What has he done to deserve that?

Oilers are paying a lot of management and support staff. Love that this has happened to them.
On our end, we keep finding ways to lose games we need which makes us a mediocre team and we wont be a contender until we start winning those games.

Haha I think they had to overpay to get him.

Normally I'd agree with you but Katz seems to have a black hole in his judgement when it comes to his precious loliers. How else can you explain Lowe and MacT still pulling down big salaries?

If he just doesnt want his time-out he can give it to me. Maybe he thinks time-outs are a form of cheating and he is morally opposed to them?

They called it a goal then reversed without a review
Seems perfectly valid to challenge given that initial confusion
And a fine use of a timeout

Probably signed them both to long term deals initially with big golden parachutes if they get let go. Nicholson too.
Very surprised how quiet Lowe actually has remained given how much running the team meant to his ego for 15+ years, after his big demotion. Probably a condition of his continued employment.

Serious question: I thought they changed it this season that failed challenges resulted in a 2 minute minor penalty? Was surprised that we only lost a timeout.

Maybe that is for offsides but not goalie interference?

I’ve heard that the entire staff is on expiring contracts. Has this ever actually been confirmed?

Where did you hear that? If true that means everyone is good as gone at the end of the season unless they go on a miracle run.

I've seen things about it on Twitter. There are some that speak about it like it's an absolute fact.

As I was looking for any sort if confirmation of Gully's contract length, I have found what he said as he was hired:
There will definitely be a little bit of a style change in how we play," Gulutzan said. "It will lead to an exciting game. It'll be an exciting, connected team that you're going to see here.
"What we want to be is a real connected group here. We want to be connected in fives in all three zones. We want to defend fast; we are going to defend fast. We are going to utilize the assets we have here. For me the trend is how quickly we can transition from offense to defense, how much we can stay connected so we can hold onto the puck but still play fast, and how quickly we can get it back and utilize the strengths of the players that we have here. The only way you can play that way is to stay connected as a group."
