It sounds like Tre might be looking at Pageau or Byron, two similar players who could really fit on the wing on even at centre on the 3rd line. Their speed would also be very useful for this team which can be a bit slow outside of Gaudreau.

Backlund and Brouwer for Hoffman? Maybe sign Backlund for 5.25 for 6 first.

if you can sign Backlund for 5-5.5 over 4-5 years, I think you have to do it...
if not, I can see you trading him.
Backlund for Hoffman doesn't make a lot of sense to me as you are creating a hole by filling another one...
imo, there's no centerman that is capable of filling Backlund's role in the lineup now...and you are rolling the dice if you feel that Janko or Dube are ready for that role...

I can't imagine Backlund would sign a deal without any sort of no trade protection, especially just before the trade deadline.
And why would the Senators, who are not a cap team, look to pick up Brouwer? To dump Hoffman?
This is an example of looking for a team to give you what you want in a signed good player, and you get rid of expiring assets or negative value assets. (Backhand expiring because he might become a UFA and have no value).

In what way does it sound like he might be looking at Byron?

Galchenyuk would be quite the prize
What would Galchenyuk cost do you think?
I'd do Brodie + for him in a heartbeat but I think a forward would have to be going the other way in order to make room and you know the cost would be significant.. would it be a good time to bundle Bennett to maximize a return? Calgary gets arguably the best player with the highest ceiling and a lot of runway left before his peak seasons in Galchenyuk. Bennett is in the same boat he just has been as productive as Gally year over year and Brodie would be the biggest selling point in the trade for the Habs. They need D and they need good offensive D. Brodie/Weber would be a deadly set up for them.
I think it probably needs a bit of tweaking but it is close:
If the cost was Brodie + Bennett + Prospect for Galchenyuk + Morrow + 2018 2nd (one of MTL, CHI) would you do it?
Gaudreau - Monahan - Ferland
Tkachuk - Backlund - Frolik
Galchenyuk - Jankowski - Hathaway
Brouwer - Stajan - Lazar
Versteeg
Giordano - Hamilton
Morrow/Kulak - Hamonic
Kulak/Morrow - Stone

Pageau seems to make the most sense. Right shot Centre with rumors the Flames want to perhaps add at the Centre position. Hoffman is who I want though. Goal scoring winger with speed.
Stone and Gillies for Pageau and a 2nd?
Stone, Gillies, Mangiapane for Hoffman?

Stone moving intrigues me because it would likely mean Andersson making the jump.
I think Stone + Gillies should be enough to get Hoffman; if not Klimchuk could push it - no need to include Mangiapane.
I do that trade for sure.

Does Dougie Hamilton get you Mark Stone? Cause if he does, I'd rather do that and move Rasmus Anderson up.
I'm not high on Hamilton at all but some of you seem to think he's untouchable. Well if his value is that high, he should get you Mark Stone, who would solve a lot of problems up front.

Someone earlier said they think that BT will make a trade that none of us saw coming and I agree. Most of the moves that he's made surprised most of us and we only found out about it as it was happening.
I'm expecting a deal that involves someone that none of us really think will be traded from a team that none of us are really thinking of. I think there will be at least one surprise move with a player leaving and at least one with a new player coming in.

Something based on Giordano for Karlsson? I suppose I could get on board with that.

I'd be cautious about Galchenyuk. There were rumours earlier this year that he has been in and out of rehab. You would want to have your homework done before surrendering anything significant here.

I think it's going to be Backlund. I don't know why but I have a gut feeling about it.

That's not a bad hunch. I think that there are other organizations that value him more than the Flames. He's been a good soldier and a model citizen but I think that the Flames don't see his value - never have in my opinion.
I think Babcock has always admired Backs and a deal with the Leafs would fall into that "out of nowhere" category and would not surprise me.

Klimchuk has no real trade value. Adding him pushes nothing.
If Ottawa moves Hoffman they will want at least 1 premium piece back. Neither Stone nor Gillies qualifies as a premium piece. With many teams bidding on Hoffman, you are not going to win the bidding war by including a Klimchuk on top of some interesting, yet not premium, pieces.

Lmao...
Gio, once again in the Norris convo for a player who had major ankle surgery and may not be able to return to their Norris form and is going to command almost twice as much money than Gio and for 6-7 years...
This kind of stuff makes me shake my head..

I'm sure Treliving has a few offers on the table for Backlund should he not get re-signed. I'm hoping he re-signs with the Flames and probably this is the domino holding things up
