What the hell happened here? Didn't know a 10 minute penalty existed.

Losers gonna lose. Flames badly need to beat the Oilers in their final meetings as they can’t afford to be the only playoff contender in the division that can’t beat this trash team.

The 10 minute match penalty has been around forever, its just rarely called.

Its actually a really severe penalty and guarantees a visit with the NHL disciplinary department.

I've only seen it called a handful of times, and its for deliberate intent to injure.

Unlike a game misconduct the minutes show up on the penalty sheet for the player.

The player is ejected as well, and the team has to put a player in the penalty box to serve a major (5 minute penalty).

I got a match penalty in a game, but in my defense the other kid had it coming.

I'll have to cheer for Tampa Bay, Chicago, Carolina, and Edmonton tomorrow night.
LA, Minnesota, Colorado, and San Jose must lose.
Anything to help the Flames.

Are we even bothering with a PGT?
Just fire Chiarelli, McLellan, Woodcroft, Johnson and Schwartz and be done with it.

And MacT, Lowe, Howson, Nicholson, Katz's son....

Joey Moss can stay.

Oh....I misunderstood. Ive been around the game for well over 40 years and have never heard it called that way.

I thought it was a 10 minute long penalty...so its just a match penalty then, with intent.

Saw the highlight...was a nasty 2 hander for sure.

There is both 5min and 10min match penalties. It’s been a long time since I saw a 10min called. Did they actually call one tonight?

Does that mean one team got a 10 minute powerplay?

Because for a 5 you do.

I didn't realize this, all Match penalties are charged as 10 PIM against the player, like any other game misconduct, but it also gives the other team a 5 minute power play.

For all match penalties, regardless of when imposed, or prescribed additional penalties, a total of ten minutes shall be charged in the records against the offending player.
Bertuzzi is also suspended until the league can review the situation. Although, as we saw earlier this year when Hamonic and Giordano received their match penalties, the league reviewed and did not issue any further suspensions.
