Bennett really is moving into busy territory at this point. Zero consistency, complete lack of hockey IQ, and can’t play the position he was drafted at. He’s shown zero signs of turning this around. I’d be more than happy to move on from him at this point but I don’t think he has any real value at all around the league at this point. At his low salary, probably better of keeping.
That said, one poor penalty shouldn’t cost you a game. This PP is bey Nd pathetic. Not sure how a coach hasn’t paid for this yet with their job just as a matter of principle.

This loss is on Sam Bennett. Both teams owned 1 period and it was close in the 3rd. The last thing we needed was a brainless offensive zone penalty at the worst time by a usual suspect who hasn’t been right for a while. I know it’s 20/20 thinking, but every time I watch Nikolaj Ehlers or William Nylander play, I can’t help think how much better our 3rd line would be with them instead.

What do you mean by take the loss? Trade him for a bag of pucks? That's not how it works nor how it will work. I feel fans are expecting too much out of young players as we have people getting on Jankowski as well and it's just not fair given few teams overly depend on players this age.

Lol it's just as easy to say...
And if we don't trade him, people here will moan and groan, and say they wish they would have traded him for something instead of letting him fade out of the league.

I was talking about the Avalanche if you bothered to read rather than pick and choose what you want to see from posters you don't like but carry on policing the thread. I know everyone here appreciates your efforts

West and Pacific are so tight. LA wins tonight and Flames are back on the outside looking in.
Can't give up any points. Even though they won 3 straight going into tonight when you have the lead going into the 3rd you have to shut that #### down. Oh well let's get 2 points on Sunday. GFG!

Thank God GG talked to the group about their 3rd periods after not being happy last night with the 3rd. It's important to be timely with correcting things, and nothing says timely like being more than halfway through the season.

The difference between the two is simple though.
Jankowski isn't helping the team right now, but he isn't actually hurting it.
Bennett is very much hurting his club. He has been abysmal the last stretch and looked even worse tonight.
He is a guy that could benefit from spending a night or two watching from above....at the very least it cant hurt if he isnt plaing.

I'm not saying he's worth nothing. However, you have to consider moving him to get someone who can contribute more to the team. Sometimes a change of scenery for a player might spark something, sometimes not. But either way, the organization takes a chance. But, if a good trade works out where both teams get rewarded with the player that benefit their respective team, everybody wins. Right now and for the past few years, Bennett and the Flames don't fit.

I’m all for the understanding that young players will make mistakes and need time to mature and adjust. But Bennett is actually hurting this team with the constant dumb penalties he takes. They’re always 200 feet from his own net and at bad times. Where in an extremely tight playoff race and need wins and right now Bennett isn’t doing anything to help this team accomplish that.
Now that I think about it I think we will be seeing Sam Bennett sit out the next game because he played a career low in minutes the other night in New Jersey and he takes a bad penalty that leads to the game winning goal against. He without a doubt is in the coach’s dog house right now.

All teams that have players on their 3rd line today flirting with a 50 point pace. The good teams have Backlund and Frolik, good players, on their 3rd line.

Bad penalty/poor play aside I honestly don't think we will be seeing Hrivik-Jankowski-Hathaway or Lomberg-Jankowski-Hathaway on Sunday

Grasping onto straws here but since Jagr left basically after the CHI NYE game , Bennett has reverted back to his first month and a half form. 2 goals in 16 games. He gushed about Jagr throughout and a few weeks ago when he went back to Kladno.
Flames can’t waste the season of JG. He certainly looks on another level every time he touches the puck, and watch him last night on the goal and even tonight jumping on Kulak after the goal, fully invested, so time to get some more pieces thet can play up and down the 2nd and 3rd line and if Sam needs a day off, there’s a capable replacement and overall depth.

Just bizarre. Bennett 'deserves a night in the press box' but the guy who had 7 shots was worse?
Bennett is absolutely the reason they lost the game. He was sitting in the penalty box when the game winning goal was scored. On an offensive zone holding penalty.
Lots of teams have 21 year olds as key depth players. Bennett is 21st in scoring from his draft year right now, he's 20th in scoring in ppg from the first round of his draft class this year, the only ones producing less are defenders, out of the league, or canucks. That third line is a disaster right now.
They aren't thin up front in spite of Bennett, they are thin up front in part because of Bennett.
I'm not dour, that was a great game, Lundqvist and Smith were both amazing, but let's' call a spade a spade here. Bennett cost the flames at least one point in my opinion, and I think that was a very winnable game for the Flames.
