Lifetime In Suspension

Meh whatever, every damn time this management team has made a trade it’s some ninja out of the shadows shinguard. If anything comes of this it’s probably not what we’re all thinking.

Agreed - having a slightly overpaid top end talent is way better than having useless, bad money buried on your 4th line.

Smith? The hell. The bottom 6 needs north south speed.
More Jarnkroks and hagelins....
Less Brouwers and Smiths

Zack Smith the player I don't have a problem with its the multiple years left on his contract at over $3 million.

Its mind blowing/boggling/bottling (ha) that they could scout the Sens this much, see Hoffman performing as well as he is on a team that has no playoff hopes, and yet they (apparently) come away saying "yeah, that Zack Smith sure is large"

I don't think you can just look at junior/minor league scoring numbers when judging how a player's game will translate into the NHL.
Hartman has had NHL success.
Flames clearly don't think Klimchuk has an NHL future.
There is likely a reason why Klimchuk hasn't had a chance yet.

LOL. I highly doubt thats their mind set. The GM lives in a place called reality. In reality he knows what he can afford and what he can't. I don't want Smith but the reality is thats the kind of player they probably can afford. I'm sure they would love Stone but thats not happening.

May be missing or forgetting, but when's the last time a treliving move has been this 'telegraphed' as in out there in the media??
I still just don't believe it. For a team with such little scoring and speed on their bottom 6, to not bring in speed and depth scoring seems weird.

More to do with acquisition cost than performance between the two.
Its apparent to me that Flames mgmt. is going bargain bin shopping if they do anything at all.
things like Hoffman, Kane, etc are not of any interest at this time, but depth bodies are the desire.
Smith may not be something they need right now, but he is an NHL player with decent size and can play the game a bit.
Still of the opinion that Backlund cannot be allowed to test the FA waters and if isnt/wont sign before the 26th, they have to get what they can for him.

sounds like a smoke screen to me. Either way, I trust treliving to do the best for the team.

Maybe Something involving Hoffman and Smith together?
Brodie might be on their radar if Karlsson is anticipated to leave in 2019. Not necessarily a replacement for Karlsson (especially if he re-signs) but more of an insurance policy if he does leave.

I would be comfortable with a Stone for Smith swap just because it moves the money up front and opens a spot on the backend where we have better prospects pushing. Probably helps in signing Fox as well which should be a priority. Makes us grittier which is a plus in our division.
If we are just taking on that money, or giving up a good prospect for Smith, then it is a bad trade just like Lazar was a bad trade.

I wouldn't... Smith isn't good. I'm not comfortable with the team making any trade for any overpaid not good hockey player. Seriously we're a few months away from finally freeing ourselves from our perpetual overpayment of Matt Stajan and here we are talking about trading for a similarly bad contract.

IIRC the Hamilton and Hamonic moves were talked about a fair bit.

Exactly right. I'm pretty sure that this close to the trade dealine, Trelivings cards are so close to his chest that you can't see daylight. These insiders are probably just as in the dark as we are. Infact, the way NHL teams control the message these days, I wouldn't be surprised if there has been some misleading statements made as a means of misdirection.

Sens dont have a 1st or 2nd this year, so if that is what they are thinking, they are going to need a new trading partner.

Didn't mean trade Backlund to the Sens. That would be a separate deal.
