I’d be curious what the eye test says this season. He was an effective defensive forward with the Blackhawks, with almost all defensive starts and trusted with heavy PK minutes in the past. Contract is steep but he seems useful in the right place (edit. - that is, if he is what he was previous. Based on other posts here, it sounds like he’s regressing)

Of course, he would end up eating most of the cap savings the Flames would find in Stajan so I would say it’s hard to fit him in Calgary.

Hmm I would trade Brouwer for Smith potentially.

Feel like way more liklihood for Smith to turn around his game.

Arizona is at 50 contracts. They would need to trade or terminate a contract before claiming anyone.

Maybe if he was on the last year of his contract or was only making $1mil a year like in Detroit. Pass.

Smith can't turn around his game because he was never good.

His contract is for 3 years beyond this season.

Guys, don't even think of picking up either Smith or Kruger.

They are no good, and there's no fit.

Working in Kruger's favour of getting claim is his actual salary. Roughly $500,000 owed this year due to a large signing bonus, 2.3M next year. It's not quite as outrageous as his cap hit.

Whats wrong with Brendan Smith? Without getting into his fancy stats, he looks like he's on par for his career stats.

Jooris had a good run for an undrafted player.

Too bad Kruger has 1 more year left. I'd send Stajan down and have Kruger as the #4C.

Smith was traded to NY at last years deadline for a 2nd and 3rd. From all indications he played quite well and turned that into a nice 4 year contract. Has he gone to that bad that fast or is he having an off season? Nobody is going to take a chance on him with the amount of money that is left on his contract.

Kruger is an ex Blackhawk. Treliving seems to like those!

IIRC, Kruger ended up as Sweden's first line centre in the Gold medal game at the last Olympics, due to a bunch of injuries.

Ex Blackhawk aside, why should BT want Kruger and his 3.083M cap hit? That would be a dead stupid move by him.

Watching AC's video of Johnny's first year, I really think that Jooris' career greatly benefitted from being on Johnny's line for a great deal of the first year. Gave him time to survive in the NHL until he was considered a true NHLer.
