Asking price for Grabner and Nash is hilarious you'd have to be crazy to give up that much.
I wouldn't mind Mark Stone and Dion (yes Dion) if he was retained though. I'm pretty sure he is left handed. Maybe Brodie can slot back to the right side he is more comfortable with. Gilles, Bennett and something, something going the other way.

Here’s a list of F rentals that shouldn’t cost too much from teams that should be sellers at deadline.
 Brad Richardson - ARI
 Benoit Pouilot - BUF
 Jordan Nolan - BUF
 Lee Stempniak - CAR
 Patrick Sharp - CHI
 Radim Vrbata - FLA
 Colton Sceviour - FLA
 Tomas Plekanec - MTL
 Michael Grabner - NYR
 David Desharnais - NYR
 Valtteri Fillipula - PHI

Mostly depth guys but cost should be minimal (Grabner and Plekanec notwithstanding). Included these guys as I could see them getting squeezed at deadline like cammaleri did which could allow Treliving to pick one of them up at a decent price.

Might be able to get one or more of these players for a prospect that we are unlikely to re-sign (like Poirier, Wotherspoon or Shinkaruk) and save our draft picks. Similar to what we did with sieloff for Chiasson

I'd be pissed if the Flames traded for a single one of those players. YUCK!

They did make a big push for Sharp prior to the start of the season. He might be what they want on that 3L as a consolation prize of sorts if they can't make a bigger deal elsewhere
They also sniffed around Sharp last year too at the deadline

If we are going to give up assets, I would rather it not be on rentals. Obviously younger guys with term will cost a premium, but perhaps we can find a couple of warriors with a year left after this one to fill in for Versteeg on the PP next year. A skilled guy like Zuccarello come to mind. He would slide in well beside Janko & Bennett with the benefit of being lethal on the PP.

Ya landing a rental at this point seems like a bit of a waste of assets. The West is quite open this year so I guess anything can happen but I dont see any of those players being really big difference makers. If were making a long run I think it happens regardless of those minor additions. I guess if the price is right why not but come trade deadline time the price is rarely right.

5 goals and 8 assists for 13 points in 35 games. 36 years old and not looking very swift these days. His -8 rating is 3rd worst on the entire team, ahead of a rookie defenseman and barely ahead of Jamie McGinn.

Vrbata would be an awful pick up. I'd sooner bring back 46 year old Jagr.

You wait for Versteeg to get healthy and hope that he helps Bennett and Jankowski find their offensive game again. You hope that Ferland goes on another streak and puts a dozen more goals. There are no good options out there at the trade deadline this year.

This team absolutely needs something on the 3rd line because they have been dreadful no matter who’s on there. We’re basically all in with the picks we’ve given up and we don’t really have the assets to land anyone with term. So ultimately I think a middle tier rental could be a good move for the team.

Any interest in Nyquist from Detroit?
Seems like he is falling on the depth chart there and can use a fresh start. 4.75 mil cap hit until 2019 though.

 Plays RW too.

I think we're going to start hearing a lot of "fresh start for Sam Bennett" talk. The kid needs to put up a big season next year, otherwise he's looking at another contract in the ~2M range, but probably longer term.
I'd be shocked if his agent wasn't in his ear about him needing a fresh start on another club.

I'd love Boone Jenner. Even if he never gets back to that 40-50 point place, he still plays the game the right way.

 |
I would love that but can’t see us getting a 3rd round pick in the deal. Frankly, I doubt that Detroit would pull the trigger on Gillies + Brouwer for Nyquist. I think Gillies straight-up for Gillies would interest Detroit but doesn’t work for the Flames cap-wise.
