I wonder why? On paper he seems like a good fit. He's a RH shot that could really help the pp as his 14 power play points would suggest. 37 points in 52 games is decent, it would actually be good for 3rd on the Flames. Probably cheap to acquire as well. Checks a lot of boxes in what they should be looking at as far as rentals go.

Everyone else is pretty much essential or has little value. Those are some decent pieces for a team looking to rebuild or retool.

Not that I am pining for any of those players to be traded. I still think Brodie can rebound under the right coach and Bennett is still young. I only added Gillies because Parsons seems to have taken his spot as our best goalie prospect, not because I don't have faith in him. But you need to give up value to get value.
I would add:

Ferland
Jankowski
Backlund

I am in no way suggesting we trade any of those three, but in a big enough deal Flames would have to give up something of high value.

If we’re on the outside looking in come trade deadline they have to seriously examine trading Backlund.

I don’t quite see Ferland being available. Albeit not untouchable, I would have to think the ask on him is much higher than teams are willing to pay, and for good reason.

Definitely 3 tiers of players on this team in terms of trading

Untouchable:
Gaudreau
Monahan
Tkachuk

Not available (but at the right price?):
Giordano
Ferland
Jankowski
Backlund
Hamilton
Smith
Rittich
Frolik
Versteeg
Hamonic(?)

Available:
Bennett
Brodie
Stone
(Please take)
Lazar
Stajan
Brouwer

I'd put Hamilton in the untouchable group. I think the back end needs to be built around him.

Don't be silly. Monahan is definitely untouchable.

Agreed. I also think Tkachuk could be the most untouchable piece of the bunch. I’m starting to think he could end up being a perennial 35g-40a elite possession 2 way player. Not many like that in the league.

He’s a rental who has a reputation for disappearing down the stretch and into the playoffs.

I’d trade him in a package for a signed Tavares

Friedman on FAN960 suggested last week that Johnson could be available with the emergence of Point.

Canucks stink and disappearing acts aside, Vanek would be a great addition to the Flames bottom 6 for the right price. Wotherspoon? Shinkaruk? Lol both?

But someone with something to lose. Shots a a cup are running out for if able to play with a skill line where he has help, he would become our Ruslin Fedotenko when we face the Lightining in game 7 of the SCF?

I think Ferland is an interesting situation. Clearly a highly valuable player whose shooting percentage though is quite high. You don’t look to trade him but if you’re looking to acquire an elite player maybe he gets thrown into the equation.

There's no disappearing act aside with Vanek. Very inconsistent and a major floater most of the last few years.

Glad to hear on the last page there is talk the Flames want nothing to do with him.

No player on the Flames roster is untradeable IF the offer is good enough. there is only 3 players in the history of the franchise that were untradeable IMO: Fleury, Iginla, Kiprusoff. And 2 of them were traded despite my feelings .

I’ve sadly been subjected to a few Canucks games from living on the coast and I’ve noticed him being decent in the corners and has a bomb of a shot. He played well in Minny, ok in Detroit and hasn’t meshed well in Van because well.. it’s Vancouver..

But find him open in the slot or circles and he can burry some goals.

He is still better than 0.5 ppg in the playoffs. Not great for a $7 million player, but great for a $1 million player.
