Interesting case study.

Also, more local brewers and food vendors. It builds brand.

Good luck with that. King is still obsessing with the Calgary Next power point every night.

IDK about this article...they are comparing numbers from two different Stadiums. "Low prices made people come early and spend more"
The excitement of a new stadium would have people coming early. Likely more efficient points of sale too. Not saying the theory is totally wrong but there are multiple factors here.
Also 600M in public funding for the stadium

Im loving the lack of servers in the lounge at the Dome as of late. Really gives off a distinct "we don't give a crap about service" vibe that I'm looking for when spending my entertainment dollar.

Spolumbos is the only food I've bought at the dome in 20 years, seriously. It's such crap that you just avoid it. So jealous when you go to LA and can get fresh sushi or made to order Mexican.

What you didn't like the $5 each Blanco tacos? Or the $12.50 poutine?

And the ice cream got smaller.

I would be willing to buy the food at games if it was one of: low quality, high cost, and poor service. Maybe two max.
Right now it is mostly all three, which is a pretty easy no.

This is effectively the crux of the matter.

I'm the same way. The crucial thing about the trial that the Atlanta Falcons did is that they made sure they had service and capacity.

The thing is, I'm not expecting a gourmet meal or anything at a hockey event, but that means I dont expect to be paying gourmet prices and waiting for the Maitre D.

If you want to sell me nachos, a pocket dawg and a beer, then great, do it for cheap and do it in under 5 minutes. If I want Prime Rib then based on my desires I have to change my expectations.

The key to making money off of concessions isnt typically price, the key is throughput.

20,000 people have effectively agreed to be held hostage in your building for 3 hours in exchange for watching men hitting pucks. You have this amount of time to sell them stuff. Get to it.

CSEC, led by King are way too old and staunch in thier old school ways of thinking to ever try anything this progressive. Just keep bleeding the fans King, one cut at a time, for as much as you can get.

The day the Flames got rid of the easy dispensing condiment station and replaced it just with the packages of each was the day I stopped buying hotdogs at the dome. Trying to fiddle around opening those packages while balancing a beer/ticket/what ever else.

^^^^They have both the dispensers and the packets.... Interestingly, I seek out the packages because I prefer to keep my food wrapped and hot until I get back to the seat.

I comment only because in this case, it's obvious you can't please everyone with only one style of concession product. And, I'd of guessed you and I both represent the vast majority of Dome patrons, yet we're opposite here.

I also will say that the nachos represent the best value in the Dome. Everything else, except maybe the half chicken, is not great value.

Not only did the malts get smaller but they are no where near as good from the new supplier. The malts were the best part of a visiting the Dome for me.

Chicken fingers are good. Dome tip: you can ask for extra fingers instead of fries.

If they were progressive enough to keep those prices all the time, encouraging people to buy more through the game and/or providing more incentive for people to go early, you know, more than drinking beer and stuffing your face with reasonably priced food, I'd say they were on to something.

I wouldn't mind some healthier options. I guess there's wraps now somewhere, but I cant find them. There's caesar salad for $6 on one of the mezzanines, but it's just lettuce.
