A change would be nice.

Yep this game was all on the goalie but this has simply been a really frustrating season. The winning streak was fun but everything before and after has been very underwhelming and more than not the entertainment value is poor.

The Flames have become awesome at snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.

To be fair there is also a group that puts no blame on the players and blame it 100% in Gulutzan.
Like most things in life the answer is in the middle.
Gulutzan holds some blame tonight. Bennett/Ferland have some blame. In the end it’s mostly on Smith - but the coaches and other players didn’t really provide much back up when the going got tough either.

He allowed 4 on 29 shots...but was allowed to remain in the game because, you know, he is the best option.
Nothing disingenuous about it.

If Gulutzan doesn't use a timeout there, when the hell would he use it? I'm wondering. What situation does it require for him to recognize that it's time to implement the thing that he can use to settle his team down?
I wonder if he forgets he even has it.
I wonder if he said anything at all to the team in the second intermission knowing what happened in the 5 previous games.
Arg, man.

Who is being disingenuous here? Vasilevskiy allowed 4 goals on 30 shots at the time.

Interesting you call out the entertainment value after tonight's game which for 40 minutes was easily the most entertaining of the year. It had a little bit of everything.

This team is frighteningly weak. The second that something in the routine changes, something goes remotely wrong... this team implodes. They won 7 straight on a regular schedule before their really long break... which took them out of their mojo and they haven't won since! They had that goal called back today and they started playing scared and they let in a goal within a minute.
They have no mental toughness. It's like we're playing a team full of Brian Elliotts. And you might see that as a personnel issue -- and there are players who I have issues with -- but there are so many guys out there who are playing SO well and are clearly emotionally invested. Giordano, Brouwer, Tkachuk, Smith (except tonight, obviously), Ferland... and while you have to look at how guys like Monahan and Gaudreau seem to be coasting a little, whose job is it to get these players motivated and ready to play? It's the coaches'! Earlier in the season, it seemed like they were somewhat successful -- Gaudreau and Monahan looked great every night, and it made Gulutzan's shortfalls easier to look past. Now, it looks like they've settled into complacency, and while this is unacceptable on their part, it's gone on for so long that Gulutzan should have fixed this by now.
So get rid of him, and Cameron, and Jerrard. This team needs new leadership, and it needs a give-a-#### mentality. Because right now, they have it -- but only when they're doing REALLY well and they haven't done REALLY well in a game in weeks.

As for coaching tonight. GG should have pullied his goalie earlier, called a TO when his team started to collapse and not start each period with a line that features two of the worst ES players on the roster.

Is that what his Corsi was telling him tonight? Or was it his HERO chart...or....

|
Timeouts don't matter much. I put it on the list alongside bag skates as stuff that fans like to talk about that is largely meaningless.
And I'm sure he talks to his team.
I'm not going to win an argument on this board about the coach. I get that.
But again - why are folks so adverse to placing accountability on the guys who literally have the game on their sticks?
Sure Troy Brouwer gets the finger wagged at him a lot.
But it comes to your best players. Tonight Smith wasn't' good enough. Other nights the top line hasn't been. Other nights the 2nd and 3rd lines weren't
Ultimately the players are the ones that decide games.

You don't pull him after the 5-4 softy either. It's still a game that they could come back in. And you don't call the timeout there either. You're down 1, you need to bank it for the late surge.
This is not on GG tonight.

I'm not worried. I'm sure month 19 is where it finally clicks and Gulatzan gets this team playing well.

Hawks are not a good team this year. Flames can win those two games. A split is likely though.

Only Gaudreau and Backlund had more ice time as forwards than Brouwer. If that's not reason enough to fire the coach I don't know what is.

Weird range of emotions as the Flames drive me to bi-polarism. Not a word. Don't care. Yes tonight was on Smith. But coaches are canned for worse streaks than this with smaller sample sizes than this in 2 years. Something has to give.
