While Hawks are still terrible in terms of quality of goaltending, at least they’ve fixed problem of quantity by sending Jani Hurme to Edmonton in exchange for playmayking center Andy McDonald.

“McDonald is the guy I was trying to get before I was allowed to trade”, said Hawks GM Pointman. “Unlike Hurme, he can play in three different positions and will be very valuable especially with Hall out for 3 weeks. I think that now I’m close to have a line-up I want and generally slow down in trading. Current league-leading 4 games loosing streak won’t be a reason for any major trades.”

EDMONTON SUN

New GM Makes first move

New Oiler GM Sylvanfan made his first move as Oiler GM yesterday shipping versatile, but fragile forward Andy McDonald to the Chicago Blackhawks for goaltender Jani Hurme. "It was no secret that we needed a back up tender" admitted GM Sylvanfan. "We feel Andy is a very good young player, but he's stuck as a 4th liner in our organization, and we felt we required a better backup goalie more than a 4th line forward. Once we saw Andy get through our game against those malicious violent punks from L.A. we figured we better get him the hell out of town before he get's injured in the next game." Facing a difficult 4 game in 5 night stretch Sylvanfan insisted that the Oilers must provide protection for their most valuable roster player Thomas Vokun. "We'd be on crack to think that Thomas could play all 4 games in this stretch, so we really felt like we needed to get someone who we were confident could fill in and help us win games." When asked if the Oilers had anything else on the burner Sylvafan offered the following. "Well we're trying to get to know the guys in the league again. We feel no desperation to trade anyone, but we do feel we can improve this hockey team".

You are bang on... He was injured in his first game as Hawk... Day-to-day though. B)

Hurme played for Hawks much better, than he did for Predators earlier in the season. He ended up with respectable .899 Sv%, falling one save short from .900 mark

I was shaking all day yesterday knowing he was going up against Derian Hatcher.

Still the Oilers feel he's a quality player and will be given a better oppurtunity in Chicago.
