Ex-Stars pick attacks fan during game in UK
Anyone see this article?
Poor fan got clobbered....and look at those dark home jerseys!
Defenceman Matt Nickerson, a third-round pick of the Dallas Stars in 2003, was suspended 20 matches and had his contract rescinded by his team in England after attacking a fan during a game over the weekend.
The Milton Keynes Lightning of the Elite Ice Hockey League announced on Thursday that they had parted ways with the 33-year-old defenceman over the incident.

I agree on the suspension, not nearly close to enough punishment by itself. He is also unemployed now as well and the repercussions of his actions are probably not close to being over yet.

Looking at the video, there's blame to share on a few sides:
1. Nickerson for striking the fan (IMO, "attacks" is too strong a term - he backhanded the fan with his glove on while walking past). You just cannot do that;
2. The home rink for woefully inadequate crowd control. There's no cordoned off tunnel to put a barrier between fans and players; and
3. The stupid fan who sticks his head out to beak at Nickerson.

I'm not sure "attack" is too far off the mark...he goes after the kid pretty hard.
Clearly had a rage on given he spent the first minute of the video skating around trying to fight anyone and everyone.
What a clown.

Seems like he has a couple screws loose. That said, I don't have much sympathy for the fan.

In fairness to Milton Keynes it was a god forsaken **aphole long before they knicked the Dons and ran the team into the ground, still the sight of the Milton Keynes languishing 4 points back of Wimbledon in the drop zone warms the cockles of my heart.

What an ugly ending to the Flames-Lightning game.
Whoops, wrong thread.

My handle, AFC Wimbledon is a soccer team from Wimbledon in South London (same place as the tennis) but it isn't Wimbledon's original soccer team, the 'Dons' as they were nicknamed were founded in 1889 played in Plough Lane Stadium since 1912, I spent many a cold damp Saturday Afternoon there as a lad in the 70's.
In the late 1970's Wimbledon went on an amazing run going from amateur status (damn near beer league) to the Premiership in a little over a decade, culiminating in winning the FA cup in 1988, in 2002 the Football Association, soccer's equivalent to the NHL head office gave the owners permission to move the team to Milton Keynes a town a hundred miles north built in the 60's to house overflow from London, now in N America this might not seem so bad but it is the only time a club has ever moved in modern times (as in since the 19th century), it was unheard of, has never happened since.
The hatred I have for Milton Keynes is visceral still, the fact the city is a concrete wasteland devoid of charm or character and its inbred inhabitants probably wear dress shoes with sweat pants makes it worse.
The supporters of Wimbledon started their own team, AFC Wimbledon, played in the park down the road from my mum for a few years, but, driven by nothing more than hatred and a desire for revenge the team has been promoted into the league and has been promoted into the 1st Division, 2 levels below the Premier league, while at the same time Milton Keynes has run their team into the ground and they have been demoted until this year both teams find themselves in the same Division and AFC Wimbledon, owned by the fans for the fans, is 4 points clear of Milton Keynes who look like they may drop down another division.
