I'll just re-post my thoughts from the other Iginla thread:

Forget about Iginla's future with the Flames, if there is one. Think about what is really going on here.
Doesn't anyone else find this kind of sad? It seems like everyone recognizes the end has come except for Iggy himself. Why is he sitting at home working out and hoping someone calls? For the money? Probably not. Likely, it's because he wants another shot at that elusive championship.
The irony is, he's unlikely to help anyone achieve that goal.
I'll never say never and maybe this is a guy that needed 10 months off to let some of that wear and tear he's sustained heal up, but I don't know. The best version of Jarome Iginla was the one that had speed into the corners and bang and crash and win a battle, curl out with the puck and use that lethal shot or pass to an open teammate. Think of the Gelinas OT winners vs. Vancouver and Detroit, or the Crosby goal in 2012. Or he's cruising down the wing and unleashes a laser to the back of the net. I really doubt today's Jarome Iginla is bringing that to the table. He might be able to get shots away from the top of the circle, but honestly the way guys block shots these days, that's barely effective anymore.
Like for many of us here, he's probably my favourite player ever, and I hate to see it end this way, if in fact this is the end. I'm torn on whether I actually want to see him back.
Suggesting bringing Iginla back should be ban worthy. Let him go already. It's getting pathetic.
I think its more pathetic that folks here keep hoping "Jags" will return. I'll take Iginla every time over a mid 40s "Jags" on this team. Every time. However pretty sure Jarome isn't even interested in returning. So its a moot point.
Can people stop calling for bans? It's not that serious.
I was obviously joking about the bans.

At least Jagr is property of the Flames this year, but I agree that neither are NHL players anymore. I love Iginla, but he won't help this team. There's better options out there.
Jarome has made his coin, appears to have parlayed that wealth wisely and now gets to spend a lot of his time being a Hockey Dad in Beantown. I'd say he's livin' the life.
It's funny, but those so adamantly against it are the ones who can't take emotion out of the decision, not vice versa.
Look at Iginla's season last year, and look at our roster this year - he is an absolute fit. Yeah, 5v5, he's on the 4th line. On the PP though? He fits an absolute need.
As a (and how Treliving put it) "sheriff", absolutely. I remember last summer when Tree spoke about losing Engelland and was worried about losing the team's sheriff. The only emotional baggage involved, is though who so openly embrace cynicism that they apply it where it need not apply.
All of that said, given his surgery and the lack of play to date this year...I mean, we just saw Jagr flame out unfortunately. Has Iggy done a better job of staying ready?
My vote is yes. It's a limited, specific need but Iggy fits it. Subtract Brouwer from the power play, add Iggy - and it's better. How much better, who knows, but it's better.

Now I'd play Iginla over the following:
-Lazar on RW
-Mangiapane
-Hrivik
Hathaway is debatable for me. Probably a no-brainer for others though.
But that still leaves Ferland, Frolik, Brouwer, Versteeg. That's 4 guys we have to slot in ahead of him. One would have to be nursing a major injury down the stretch drive to be able to slot him into the lineup at all.

If you are bringing him back thinking he is going to be a key contributor than absolutely not. If you bring him back in hopes it moves the roster to play to win a SC for Iggy that might help but won't change the fact GG makes piss poor man management decisions that cost this team hockey games. If I am the Flames I do it just for marketing reasons, it is a business after all.

Not if you went something like:
Gaudreau/Monahan/Ferland
Tkachuk/Backlund/Frolik
Bennett/Jankowski/Brouwer
Versteeg/Stajan/Iginla

These sorts of generalizations are just not helpful. There are plenty of posters who have expressed legitimate concerns about Iginla’s fitness and ability to play this season.
I don’t think he is able to play this year. It is as simple as that.

I pose the same concern, acknowledging those who have said the same.
My intention was to have my post be directed towards the "too much baggage" posts, and I should have better pointed it in that direction.
As far as who he would play ahead of, in a perfect world:
because I just think Stajan and Brouwer's utility is non-existent.
Stajan has brought very little on a generally ineffective or outright poor 4th line all season.
Brouwer has brought negative value to every line he has played on, even with his marginally improved play as of late. Him being better than outright awful is still not acceptable.
Rely on the better players more often, and make use of player strengths better. There's the mandate I think this team needs to start pursuing.
...but it does absolutely come down to IF Iggy stayed in game-shape somehow.
