I also didn't find Jagr too slow - definitely not at the start of his shifts and before he got injured. The last few games it was easy to see he was having trouble getting around, but for the first half of the games he played here, I was surprised by how fast (relative) he was.

Hopefully this is just for a conditioning stint and he returns later this season. It isn't like Hathaway is providing too much offence on that third line. I thought they were better along the boards with Jagr over Hathaway there, though I like Hathaway's jam at attacking the net and causing a bit of mayhem.

Either way, glad the Flames signed him even if this is the last of Jagr here. At the very least, he passed along some of his wisdom.

Isn't over-all NHL merchandise revenue still shared league-wide? The Flames' FanAttic outlets of course garner a bigger cut as a retailer (as do other team stores), but how many folks purchased their Jagr jerseys there?

Cutting ties just doesn't make sense to me from the Flames pespective. He's got our 9th best Corsi% (7th among forwards), 8th best P/60. He's statistically a top-9 forward in our organization, which makes him easily top-12. For the Flames to say "nah, you weren't helping us" just makes no sense.

I wish someone would take the word Corsi.... put it on a rocket and launch it into space.

My favorite memory of him was in one of the first games, he's back checking, he's gassed and behind and he uses his stick to push a line mate (might have been johnny) from behind to catch up to the breaking opposition player.

Jagr is 2nd all-time in NHL scoring. I think he has higher expectations for himself than pretty good Corsi.

It depends on if you watched him on TV or live. I found live it was very obvious that he was the slowest player by far on the ice. If the Flames had possession in the opponents end he was noticeably good but that was it as he was in no-man's land in the neutral zone. It couldn't have been a good situation for Gulutzan as I'm sure he didn't want to be the guy to bench one of the greats but at the same time knew he was very, very limited in what he could do on the ice. He seemed to have a positive impact off the ice so when you consider the contract not a disaster or anything. Just one of those things where both parties tried and it just didn't work for anyone.

Puting Jagr on waivers is the right thing to do by the Flames. From what the buzz is this will allow him to clear and be able to play in Europe.
Also the Flames will be able to free up a contract roster spot.

Notwithstanding Bill Daly's comments, Feaster's reading of the section is consistent with legal principles.

I think that on appeal the Flames would have won the dispute.

Just bumping your post AC as I'd like to know also.

Anyone know if he needs to clear waivers again, should he return to the NHL later in the season?

My understanding is no. It would be just like calling up someone from Stockton.

Probably as good a way for both the team and Jagr to save face as its going to get. He isn't "cut" or bought out, the Flames gave him a chance to find work elsewhere in the NHL, he now gets to end his career at home and the Flames don't have him to worry about so far as a contract goes.

just an additional note: Flames ability to recall him also depends on whether they agree to pay his full salary while he plays in Europe.

If they are only partially paying him, they won't be able to recall him.

No, he would not require waivers to be recalled if he is on loan to Kladno...
Quote:
13.23 In the event a professional or former professional Player plays in a league outside North America after the start of the NHL Regular Season, other than on Loan from his Club, he may thereafter play in the NHL during that Playing Season (including Playoffs) only if he has first either cleared or been obtained via Waivers. For the balance of the Playing Season, any such Player who has been obtained via Waivers may be Traded or Loaned only after again clearing Waivers or through Waiver claim. This section shall not apply to a Player on the Reserve List or Restricted Free Agent List of an NHL Club with whom the Player is signing an NHL SPC or is party to an existing SPC with such NHL Club.

The Czech league regular season is done Feb 24. Looking at last year, playoffs wrapped up March 24 but the playoffs started Feb 16. So if Kladno does go all the way, and they are in the top 3 of the league currently, it would be early April, at the very latest, that Jagr would be done.

Concieveably he could be back before the playoffs here, or really, whenever he wants, depending on what him and the Flames want to do.
