Are they?
Flames just had the 2nd most number of prospects at the World Juniors with 6, behind only NJ.
Also ranked 5th best in 2017 from DobberProspects

They've drafted strong fantasy prospects in the last number of drafts. Adding guys like Parsons, Dube, and Fox in 2016 really propel them to the top fantasy lists. The forward depth has some boom or bust prospects but at least if they boom, they boom. Joel Henderson
Ranked in five out of nine writers top ten and as high as third overall the Flames were a surprise to me. Getting a boost from roster players Matt Tkachuk and Sam Bennett rise their standing to be sure, but there is both quality and quantity coming down the pipe in Calgary. Peter Harling

Cupboards are definitely not empty, and debating the individual players aside, I like how Treliving has not traded picks for rentals.
2 previous 1sts are now Harmonic and Hamilton, 2nd is Lazar, and you could make a case that Foo replaces a traded second. I like that asset management.
However the favorite currency this time of year is draft picks, and the Flames don't have too many of those.

I think people just look at our AHL roster and assume we've got nothing or very little lol.
We have got some awesome players that we will be seeing very soon!

When I said the cupboards were too empty I meant we have no draft picks. The prospect pool looks great right now but with the depleted draft picks the prospect pool is sure to dwindle as players graduate and move on. I have no problem investing high prospects if the deal makes sense but for a high end rental it's not a good fit at this point.

I agree in terms of rentals. But if we're adding a piece for several years I think you have to explore it.
IE: Hoffman (2 years left at $5.19M) or Stone (pending RFA due for a big raise). I think if you can add either player, you're adding to your core so I'd move the 2019 1st if need be.

If it comes down to it, I’d rather trade a prospect than another first.

The one reason I would be open to trading 2019 first overall, is that because we do have some great prospects that will be ready to graduate to the NHL fairly soon, the team will be in a position where they have to move out either the developing prospect or the vet they would be replacing. At that point (which can be anywhere from 1-3 years I would imagine) we can recoup high draft picks.

I think you mean 2019 first rounder?
We better not have, or if we have, trade, first overall.

I'd rather trade dave Cameron for a new pp coach before trading a prospect or pick. If done during the break the team would have 3 weeks before the deadline to see dividends.

It's 2018 and people still refer to Nash as some sort of top 6 guy.
He's 33 years old, has been slightly better than a 40 point guy since 2015-16 despite having a ~55% offensive zone start and allowing more shot attempts than he's generated. He isn't a PP performer, only having 4 points (3G,1A) so far this season with an average of 2:02 PP mins per game. A comparable is Ferland who has 5 goals with about 2:20 PP mins per game.
So I guess the bright side is that he shouldn't cost very much as an aging, big winger with his best years behind him.
But is that really the kind of trade the Flames are going to need to solve the numerous special team issues?

Can Brandon Saad be pried out of Chicago? Has struggled there, but is a big time playoff performer.

Hell I'd pay the Flames $50 to fire him now.

That kind of comment always reminds me of the hilarious trades from the Old Days and Minor League sports.
As far as hockey is concerned I do recall that one player was traded for a Team Bus and another was traded for a Steak Dinner.
The Calgary Cannons once traded a guy for 2000 Red Seats (I think? Memory is hazy on that one) but....that one sadly did not go well.

Based on your username I'm guessing that cheque would bounce though.

Actually though, Cameron's salary is what, 800 grand? Think we could organize a kickstarter or something and just hire him to stay away from the team?
