Was at the game last night and have to ask, what is the deal with doing the wave late in the third in a 1-1 game?
Typically it is a celebratory thing, not something you do just for kicks. Knock it off Flames fans, it makes you look like fools. If you are blowing someone out, fire it up, but in a tie game, HELL NO!

This, this, this a million times, this!!!!
Its like the kiss of death! Do it when the game is well in hand (if at all)
They did this against Minnesota back in October. I missed a goal against because everyone stood up in front of me just at that moment. Might have been for the best but you get my point.

I don't know, I'd take 7-0-3 and a loss to the Oilers over 0-7-3 and a victory over the Oilers any day.
One team is playoff bound, the other is not. In the grand scheme of things tonight's 2 pts is no more valuable than 2 against an eastern division team.
I too am sick of the complete no-shows against the Oilers as of late, but to say a win against the Oilers has more value than a 10 game winning streak is a little crazy.

Nope. I will lose it if they lose to the Oilers tonight. I don't think i watched a full flames game for 2 weeks after that last loss.

People needs to chill on this fire Gulutzan crap... it’s like reading that post - they’d be ok losing to Edmonton if it meant GG got fired because of it... we should never be ok with a loss to Edmonton and GG is close to having this team rolling on all cylinders.
Start of the year - all offense no D
Mid year - D is nice and tidy but bit of a dry spell on scoring
Part of that has been the inconsistency in the month of Jan schedule - the bye week and another 5 day break coming - after that it’s basically every other night and when this team hits a rhythm they start fly.
|
The irony in this is that under GG, the Flames don't seem to have a problem losing to the Oilers.

Honestly, I look at the last three games as a good thing. Teams are going to ebb and flow over the course of a season, that's just how it is. The Flames were going to run into a rut at some point, and here we are - scoring 1 goal a game for 3 games in a row. The reason I think this is good is because we will not continue to score only 1 goal a game and we managed a .500 points percentage out of this poor skid.
The team is going not going to play their best hockey all 82 games. So the fact they are still getting points when they are not playing their best is a good thing.

Seriously not enough love for the Monahan goal. Likely goal of the year for the flames.

Bettman's nefarious plan of giving NHL fans false hope is working. So many people in here looking on the "bright" side of losing 3 in a row because they were awarding a point for losing.
Flames lost three in a row, scored one goal a game, and didn't look good for long stretches doing it.
I love hockey and I'll continue to watch until I die, but the welfare points system and gimmick tricks to end regular season games is so dumb. Regular season should be W-L-T, 3 pts for a win. Reward teams that push for wins late in games, and punish boring ass teams that play for ties.
Playoffs are perfect as is.

Good ol'6 goal Bennett, on pace for 10 goals, is surely the answer to our scoring problems.

In the end, the relative tightness of playoff races has no perceivable impact on the outcome of the playoffs, so I don't understand why people are so bothered by them. It's exciting. Look at how many people are absolutely losing their minds because of the Flames inability to create any separation with other teams. I am quite sure that if it is happening to Flames fans, fans of the Kings, Sharks, Wild, Avalanche, Stars and Blues are all just as apoplectic. This is so much better than seeing the clear separation at this point of the season where all the playoff matchups are pretty much a foregone conclusion.

The most likely scenario would have been 3 ties under old Pre-Bettman OT rules.
Jets game for sure would have been a tie, other two are debatable but doubtful anybody scores if it's still 5v5 OT like it was before Bettman.
Would the people lamenting "3 straight losses" be happier or sadder if it was 3 straight ties? Honest question
And really this stretch has not been as bad as people want to believe (outside of the brutal Buffalo game)
Jets: Shots 35-31 for the Jets, Scoring Chances (5v5) 17-17, (SO/Tie is a justified result - although they W if the disallowed Goal rightly counts)
Sabres: Shots 33-33, Scoring Chances (5v5) 22-13 for Buffalo (Just a complete stinker by the Flames - deserved a reg. L)
Kings: Shots 31-27, Scoring Chance (5v5) 29-15 for Calgary (Dominating effort, deserved a reg. W)
Really the last three games should have been 1-1-1 for 3 points, instead they were 0-0-3 for 3 points. In the end it's the same outcome for the Flames, but the tough part is giving the Kings those 2 points they completely didn't deserve last night.
Honestly the only real issue at this point is the PP is literally costing us games (posted in detail in the Gulutzan thread about it). At 5V5 this team is generating chance, and stingy defensively, which is all you can ask for.

Flames were by far the better team last night, contrary to the prior 3 games
Just need to bury a chance or two...honestly it easily could have been a 4-1 win
Beat the Oilers tonight and things pretty good...pretty, pretty, pretty, good

You know what would make 3rd periods exciting? 3 points for a win in regulation, 1 pt for an OT/SO win.
