Default New Allegations against Kent Hehr

New allegations against Kent Hehr. Cbc saying allegations of inappropriate comments and behavior.

Cbc reporting Trudeau was asked about this during his closing press conference while in Davos.

Trudeau says he has not yet spoken to Hehr but he planned on doing so. Cbc also reports that "Trudeau said he had not yet spoken to his minister, but he would soon and that there would be more to come before he leaves Davos

No details on the allegations but cbc framing the story initially within the context of Trudeau comments of supporting women who come forward and to take them seriously. And the need to listen and act.

So no details about what the issue is, but hinting there is more to come imminently.

The last allegations were regarding awkward remarks that he gave, but nothing about inappropriate behavior.

The last time I met Kent and tried to have a conversation with him, I did get a somewhat socially awkward, conversationally awkward vibe from him. No malicious intent detected - but just like that friend we all have that says awkward things that makes people cringe.

His story of triumph over the shooting and overcoming his disability is a admirable but he might not be cut out to be a politician.

Okay, new article

"On posts to Twitter, a woman said Hehr made women feel "unsafe" and made verbally suggestive remarks, including "you're yummy.""

IF that’s all it is then I hope he isn’t removed over it.

I will wait to judge to see if anything more comes of it.

Here's become toxic. I would expect that he's going to be back benched and decide not to run again.

Haha, what? If those are allegations of "sexual misconduct" I hope there is more than that otherwise we have entered the third reich of language police.

me

More serious then the mp losing her mind about the threesome comment. But Hehr should no better in the current environment. This just goes to his history of being dumb and basically insensitive

Yeah, definitely, "unsafe". Makes sense. Sure.

This misapplication of the language of personal safety to comments people make is so, so obnoxious.

Agree. He is a distraction, might be more suitable in a less public position, but don't believe he is a pariah

You know some people that are perfectly fine individuals may have an appearance that is imposing or weird to some but I sure hope we don't get to the point where an imposing looking figure is singled out because their appearance makes people feel "unsafe".

Well I have no idea what happened here, but there seems to be a disturbing trend where any comment men have made towards women that was "unwanted" is being considered as sexual misconduct or harassment now? I just think that when I read the headline about sexual misconduct I picture something very different than a comment in an elevator.

And I should say that I don't mean to downplay anything that has come out in the media about these issues for women. I just think that when you have rape allegations against people, or forcible confinement and things like that, it's a far cry from an offhanded remark about a "threesome not being how he pictured it" or whatever.

I also wonder if the pendulum has swung so far now that men are automatically tried and found guilt in the court of social media and the media in general immediately. Like I know nothing of Patrick Brown, and for all I know he's a complete dirt bag, but he claims these things never happened and completely denies them. But immediately everyone presumes he's guilty or at least guilty enough that he has to resign as leader and basically his political career is ruined. That's a pretty scary thought (unless he's guilty of course, in which case it's warranted).

I would like to see Hehr back-benched for the callous and high-handed manner in which he has dealt with citizens and issues. He does come across as arrogant.

My wife works in the same office as the woman who posted that. Poor girl is being accosted by the media for more information and all she was trying to do is show solidarity.

I mean, maybe he shouldn't lose his job, but how is it unreasonable to expect a grown ass man to know that telling a woman she's "yummy" might be off-putting?

No need to wonder. It's happening and has been gaining momentum since the explosion of allegations starting with Weinstein/Spacey et al.

I said early on in that very thread that it was starting to get the feel of a witch hunt, and of course [Mod edit- people] immediately jumped on me for it. Yet, here we are.

As CHL said above, now its come to any sort of communication that any body doesn't like has become considered harassment or misconduct. The whole thing has jumped the shark, and truly takes away from actual victims. That's the saddest part.

With Hehr who knows what's occurred as there seems to be a lot of smoke even if not a lot of fire at this point. That will cost him in some capacity without question. It's really to bad to as we have discussed before, his story and bravery are second to none, regardless of his politics., and if he is innocent inall this...it won't matter in the end.

The context of the comments was a mention of how new female staffers were warned about Hehr as soon as they joined the team. Every woman knew to avoid being alone in an elevator with him and how he made sexually suggestive comments no one, but continuously to all of them. The "you're yummy" was a specific example of this harassment. It was also a demonstration of harassment that resulted in n atmosphere of fear for them, but not assault, and how that fear affects them. It shows some of the worst hypocrisy to have him a cabinet minister in a Trudeau government that is trying to push gender equality, and then promotes someone with his history.

Being alone in an elevator with a man 20 years your senior and having him say "you're yummy" would be more than off-putting. It is downright terrifying.

Ah yes, the height of right-wing discourse. Sure you couldn't have tossed in a "libtards" for good measure?
