Recall LA is the best third period team in the NHL.

This gets on my nerves. Yes Johnny made a mistake so what it happens. Gully has made many and has never owned up to them, instead he tosses his players under the bus or defends his stupidity. This has to wear on the players.

Agreed. LA played very tight on us in OT, which seemed to throw them off. Usually teams give us a wide berth, and we embarrass them...

I disagree, there have been far too many flubs and close calls for my liking. I love Smith's puckstopping abilities but just because he likes playing the puck doesn't always mean he should. Would love him to have more situational awareness in that regard.

They were on the PK in OT last game. And they did a good job of it as well until the very end. Hardly poking with a butter knife.

I think it was mostly mistakes - GG has always harped that 3-3 is about keeping possession.
Brodie, Backlund, and Monahan all had dumping as a result of poor decisions on Passes that missed, had nothing to do with the coaching.

Wasn’t very noticeable, also I was at the dome.
Thanks for noticing that I can appreciate player development though, and not blame a developing 4th player for all the team’s failures.

Mangipane slowed down over his past 3 games. Hrivik meanwhile had a good game against the Canes but he was a real turnover machine tonight and was no good against the Sabres as well.
Tough call, but yeah I'd probably go with eat bread tomorrow too.

I wish we were seeing this player development at the AHL level and give the kid a fighting chance to get his confidence back. We've seen he can score.

Getting Frolik and Versteeg back will hopefully be much more stabilizing to this team's middle-six. Right now, it's maddeningly inconsistent. I think Bennett and Jankowski need a better playmaker to set them up and there are few better playmakers on the Flames than Versteeg. Frolik has great chemistry with Backlund and it'll be good to see Brouwer back on the 4th line where he belongs.

This keeps getting brought up though.
Gulutzan was asked a specific question about that play and answered fairly and honestly. I don’t feel like he threw Johnny under the bus, but confirmed that when there are about 3 minutes left in a tie game, you can’t turn the puck over at your own blueline, when there’s only one guy back. That’s it. No throwing guys under the bus, just play smart late.

Part of the problem is the Yotes inexplicably scooped up Freddie for whatever reason, and now they're also just letting him rot in their pressbox too.
Lol Yotes. What a stupid team.

Hard to get mad at Smith for his ridiculous mistake in OT given what he brings each night, but TJ Brodie is the worst player on the ice night in and night out. Absolutely nothing short of brutal. He’s a defensive liability who now brings zero offence to help us overlook how horrible he is in his own end. How many times did he ice the puck tonight? 8-9 times? I counted three in one shift and twice in OT. He literally gave up possession in OT to make a change. In what world do you give up possession in 3 on 3? He seems to have hockey IQ of a turnip the past few years. Mistake, after mistake, after mistake.

Agreed. But more importantly, the PP needs to start contributing. The team is playing great defensively, they're solid 5 on 5, and they've been getting world class goaltending from both guys.
If the Flames had even an average PP, they'd probably be battling it out with Vegas for 1st in the Pacific.

Mistakes happen, and mistake free hockey doesn’t exist. Demanding it is a surefire way to absolute failure (see: the Brent Sutter years).
Seeing as Gaudreau is the only player generating offence, the coach should re-direct the question and place blame on himself somehow. That’s what leaders do. Direct it back to your own incompetence and failure in developing a league average PP strategy.
...yeah, we’re nitpicking, but it’s still a way to give your superstar forward a break...

True. The power play is embarrassing to watch. Looks more like two minutes of hot potato
