Dreger: Versteeg could return in mid March or earlier

According to @DarrenDreger the #Flames forward Versteeg could start skating in as soon as 10 days with a possible return in mid March.
edit: actually on TSN Dreger said mid March is the worst case scenario. Could be back earlier than that.

He has more raw skill and offensive instincts than just about anyone else on the roster.
Also has moxie.

Our depth scoring and PP have been awful. These are Versteeg's areas of expertise. Versteeg has been a pretty solid .5 PPG player for our team. What am I missing?

The depth scoring was with Versteeg and I don’t think the PP was THAT much better than it currently is.
...not saying it’s not good that he’s on his way back, but it’s not like he was the solution prior to his injury.

The Flames' powerplay was clicking at 21.6% when Versteeg went down, good for 11th in the NHL.
Since then, it's gone at 15.3%. 25th.

yup.. and last year the flames finished 10th I believe overall in the PP.
in the ten games immediately following the Versteeg injury, the flames went "10 games without the veteran playmaker, the Flames are 3-for-32 on the power play."

while the PP has looked a bit better of late, i think Versteeg was an important part of it...

If Versteeg comes back by March, I think that negates the Flames need to get a middle six rental veteran at the deadline.
