Default Deals to be had before trade deadline

I have read a ton of questionable trade offers highly in favour of the flames lol. I do believe Tree will do a deal or two before trade deadline, question as to who u believe will be part of a package and what kinda return. Cupboards are getting bare, we do have a few pieces left on farm to be a little excited with Valimaki, Parsons and possibly Dube.

As much as many don’t want to see but Backlund could be expendable as an offensive upgrade and possible pic. His defensiveness will be missed but would sure nice to add some offensiveness to go with Tkachuk. Frolik, Brodie or Stone could be trade bait for big move. What i do know is our gm will ensure long term solution if any of our big names involved. Also believe it will be for someone not on the radar and not buffalo or Ottawa.

Are we going to end up waiting for A western team to start things off to get things going or we lead the charge.

The problem is we already blew our load on Hamonic. I think we might see something minor but I just don't see us moving any more big picks or prospects this season unless it is a steal for us.

I'd be okay with a depth trade, but I really would prefer to see the holes in the line-up filled with homegrown talent. Look at all the kids from the farm and how good they've been.

If they do nothing at all it might be the best move for the long haul.

#4 center and maybe a resolution for Backlund if he isn't re-signing.

Im guessing if heartstrings aren't attached Stajan is replaced and he is given the Conroy treatment where there's a front office job waiting for him.

Unless it’s a sweet deal any big trade would have me worried. Flames don’t have many picks to play with and I really don’t want to see them mortgage their future.

The Flames already made their moves in the off season bringing in Hamonic and Smith while other holes have been filled by players from the farm.

Unless the team becomes devastated by injuries I will be happy if they stand pat.

I’m not clear on what you mean by a “resolution,” but I do not believe there is any chance Backlund will be moved prior to the TD unless the Flames are clearly out of the running for a playoff spot. He is just far too important to the team right now.

Agreed! That's my preference. If we we're tops in the Pacific I would say push this year. But I would be willing to wait a year before the big push to let some of these youngins progress a bit before mortgaging the future further.

I think there big add on for trade deadline will be to keep Backlund for playoff drive. Instead of spending assets they will keep him and let him walk as UFA. This is just my gut opinion, but I don't think the flames are going to want to give Backlund a 6X6 contract or anything close to that.

On the 4th line C thing, I'd like for Minnesota to freefall down the standings until they're well out of the playoffs so we can swoop in and pick up Matt Cullen. Would probably be the cheapest acquisition out of some other names out there that may fit the bill, and other good depth C's are on playoff-bound teams (Boyle, Martin, Beagle).

Or maybe Byron. That would be pretty funny.

im thinking power play specialist right now that wont cost us a ton, PP is our Achilles heal, didn't think Versteeg was that critical to our PP but man we suck at home. Personally would just fire Cameron and hire a new pp coach

Yep, trigger man with a good shot who can slide into the top 6 and is a RW/RHS is what we most need.

Finding one for a fair price is the tough part. I'd be okay with Hoffman but I think the acquisition price would be too steep. But he checks all the boxes above and would be my ideal grab if we can do so without hurting the team.

The GM should always be kicking the tires trying to improve the team but unless it truly turns into a buyers market I would rather him just stick with the team assembled. I know hockey fans more than any other fan love trades but I think the trade deadline is a little ridiculous in the majority of the moves never pay off and assets are thrown around recklessly. I would rather my team be a seller if they are out of the playoffs and a non-participant if they are.

Hoffman is probably my ideal pickup, despite being a LHS. He has 2 years left on his contract after this season, so it would be a long term add for a 30-35 goal scorer. He also seems to score a lot with a onetimer on the right side often.

As for RHS goal scorers, here are the names that stick out:
Mark Stone (18)
Brendan Gallagher (16)
Wayne Simmonds (16)
Josh Anderson (14)

I keep seeing his name mentioned. Why on earth would Philly get rid of him?

I'd like them to continue graduating players from Stockton.

We've done very well so far with an entire line from Stockton where these guys will at some point need to play more and get less sheltered ice time.
Playing vets over these guys isn't getting the desired results as we're only seeing glimpses of better play by the Stajans and Brouwers of the team.

Last year was too soon to do what we've done this year with Kulak, Jankowski, Rittich, Hathaway and Mangiapane....thank God we pulled the trigger and got these guys up and playing well for us.

Last year, I called the Michael Stone deal months in advance. So this year, I'm going to go out on a limb and say... Derek Ryan will be a Flame by the end of the season.

I have a feeling Chicago is out of the playoffs, and if so I can see the Flames going after Patrick Sharp as a depth pickup.
