Christmas Gift Ideas
It's that time of the year to spend away everything you've saved for 11 months.
Share your good ideas here and help out fellow CPers that can't come up with anything themselves.
Also what do you hope to get yourself?

I always feel the same way, and they really lack the "wow, what a great gift" when they open them, but it sure goes a long way when they need "x" amount of $$$ to get what they really want when they are at the mall on boxing day.
I'm freaking terrible with gifts. I'll wait 'till christmas eve to shop, and even then, im such a totally broke student, I'm not sure what i'll do.
So, i guess if people want to add suggestions for people who have little to no money to spend come christmas time, help would be great there too!
Cheers!

Find friends who work at stores who get discounts.

I picked up two the day they came out. Gave one to my brother in law for his 50th birthday this last weekend. (He has a HUGE coin collection.)
Personally, the only thing I want is that everyone I know has an enjoyable holiday season. This is my 40th Xmas, and each year things have changed in how I view it. This one will be my first without parents, and that is pretty sad. They made Xmas for my sisters and me for so many years.
If there is one thing I can say to give, it's give from your heart. It doesn't have to be something that someone opens up Xmas morning... it can be something like quitting smoking.
Hope all here have a very merry and joyful holiday season.

If the most recent family photo is a little old, book an appointment at a nice place and haul everyone in if possible to take a nice, up-to-date photo!

This is the best to give parents who are at the stage or age where they pretty well have everything. Parents love pics of kids and grandkids.

Something that has been a popular gift that I've given over the years is a nicely framed photograph that I've taken. I just chose a photo that I thought suited them... whether a nice landscape, flowers, mountains, even a picture I've taken at a Flames game. I had it enlarged, usually to 8x10, and then purchased a nice frame with the matting already in it (because I couldn't afford custom framing) and put it all together. It looked really sharp, and the person receiving it really appreciated it, as it's from the heart - kind of a home made kind of gift. And it only really cost about $30 bucks.
Since there seems to be a few photography enthusiasts on CP (thanks for all the great tips btw!) this might be an option for gift giving.

I was just going to suggest the same thing. Another nice thing to do if you have 12 pictures along the same theme is to get a calendar made. Twelve cute pictures of the family pet(s) is a great example. People love presents like that and its very cheap to do.

Christmas baking is always a good idea to give if you don't have much money. And it doesn't have to be something too hard to make, either. Nanaimo bars are pretty easy, and people love them. So are Rice Krispies squares. Yummy, yet easy and inexpensive to make. And most people will think it's great that you took the time to make something for them. More personal than going out and spending money you don't have. PM me if you need some recipes, I have lots because I usually include a tray of baking with my gifts.

I think it was Mitch Hedberg that had a bit about gift certificates. Something about them being a stupid gift because you take cash, cash that's good everywhere...

Also in the photo mindset...
I like those digital picture frames you can get where you upload your digital images and the picture in the frame changes.
They seem a bit expensive though.

all i can add to this, if youre going to go through the trouble of getting someone something, at least make it something they'll use - a gift certificate is perfect.
nothing worse than getting a piece of crap that you will NEVER use. festive season or otherwise.

LCD digital picture frames are selling like hot cakes right now. There are two different types available. The first has built in memory card readers. They can read all of the common formats: SD, Memory Stick Pro/Duo, XD and CF. They can also play music saved to MP3 format on the cards and will also play video clips stored on memory cards. They retail for $249 to $299 depending on the frame size (8 inch and 10 inch)
The second has a built in memory of around 64 MB. This can pose a problem if you have a digital camera with higher megapixel, but you can always make your pictures smaller on your computer. They retail for less...around the $90 dollar mark.
For myself, I'd love some more gadets for my iPod. Truth be told, I love clothing and accessories more than anything else

Jewelery. Get her jewelery.
I hate to say it, I really, really do. But my God, it's amazing how fast I fell in love with a little, round piece of metal my boyfriend gave me for my birthday. I'm not usually a girly-girl, but man, I just love it! It's so pretty!
You don't have to drop three months salary on it either, just a nice fake whatever or some cool one you can get in Kenso or on 17th. I had a friend a few years ago that gave me a barring from his skateboard that I wore for three years, it's all about the thought that counts - not that that was thoughtful, it fit perfectly and was kind of cool looking. If a ring seems like a pretty big deal, give her a bracelet, or a necklace - bring another girl to pick out something nice.
P.S. I too, need some good Christmas ideas for a 28 year old male... it's getting down to the wire... come on CP!!!! help!
