Commentators not used to call a Flames game are always befuddled at the non calls and calls made.

I know that missed calls probably even out over time. Although because the NHL tends to favour calls against leading teams, I would imagine that calls don't actually even out for top performing teams who often have the lead (I would be curious if that stats support my suspicion). But when so many calls are missed, or completely bungled and given to the wrong team, it's got to have a huge impact on individual games. And when the margin of error is so small for players in the NHL, the wide margin of error in the officiating is a major issue in the game.

I definitely agree he's not Rick Ball, but I don't think Romanuk's done anything really complaint worthy this game. He's shown excitement when appropriate for both teams, thought the Brodie penalty was awful, etc.
