But in this case Aho skated INTO Giordano! And Gio didn't raise his arm or target his head. And Gio was standing still.

Are you implying that a player can duck his head down into his chest and then can't be touched by an opposing player?

FWIW, I don't think Aho has some responsibility to keep his head up. The subrules about player position are, in my mind, more about players falling into position where their head is low, or ducking into a head hit.

The reason I think this is correct is that there is insufficient evidence that the main point of contact is the head. Taking Textcritic's position that it's not clear whether it is or not, I think the burden of proof would be on the party trying to impose a fine or suspension. Then there is also subrule (i) and (iii) which I think favour Gio.

All Gio needs to do there to prevent a goal is separate Aho from the puck. He doesn't need to make a statement hit. I have no issue with Gio trying for a statement hit as he did, nor Iam I saying the hit makes Gio dirty. But the whole point is putting full responsibility on the person hitting if you take advantage of a mistake and go for a lights out hit vs simple puck separation. If you can't ensure proper execution of said hit, you might pay the price. Aho is going to pay the price regardless for his mistake.

This is an incredibly rediculous mindset. The player, like it or not, DOES have the responsibility of playing the game with a sliver of common sense. Skating accross the middle with your head down, when you know what that defensemans job is, shows a tremendous lack of respect, and/or common sense for what that defensemans can do, and what he should do. Your comment shows an incredible lack of insight.

3 game misconducts during the regular season or 2 game misconducts during the playoffs is an automatic 1 game suspension if they fall under the "general" category and then an automatic 1 game suspension for every game misconduct after.
