IMO that hit is a symptom of putting too much emphasis on the hitter and ignoring the hittee's responsibility to protect themselves. No way Aho makes that play 20 years ago.
It's similar to the roughing-the-passer debate in football. More restrictive rules actually increased quarterback injuries because they hold onto the ball longer knowing the pass rushers have such a narrow window to make a legal hit.
