So sorry, man. They take so much more care of us than we of them. Life is better accompanied by a dog's eye view.

One of a million amazing things about this dog was his ability to attract other animals. I've never seen anything like it. Wild horses, sheep, bears, coyotes, birds, moose and deer. They seemed to follow us, watch us. They would get as close as possible and he just sat and watched.

Spoiler!

Spoiler!

Spoiler!

Here's some actual ptarmigan at Ptarmigan Cirque. He took me right to the birds, then just walked with them until we left for home...

Spoiler!

A bear took our pack at Birdwood lake, just walked up and stole our stuff. No food, just a jacket, water bottle, camera and of course car keys. D was so calm, a bear fifteen feet away and nothing, not even the slightest dog reaction. We walked out through Burstall Pass, hitched a ride home, walked back the next day and found our munched pack the next lake up, the camera still intact with the last picture before the bear walked of with it.

Spoiler!

Other dogs just confused him. He was nice and they were mean. He liked it when we were alone, no other people. He liked walking long hours and only when we were safe, far away, surrounded in mountains could he let himself go.

Spoiler!

As much as I want him with me forever I think I owe it to him to take his ashes to one of our hide outs. He needs to be with the creatures that know him in a place he loves.

Spoiler!

I don't post much anymore and we certainly don't see eye to eye on many topics, but he is beautiful.

Rest in peace. I'm so sorry for your loss.

My sister had to get her cat euthanized in October after he was diagnosed with the worst type of cancer a cat can get after having one of his toes removed after the vet found a tumor. He lasted for about three weeks after diagnosis and after two sleepless nights of him crying my sister and her husband finally made the decision to end his suffering.

My sister said it was the hardest decision she's ever had to make and she was hoping he would just pass in his sleep before things got bad and my brother-in-law said having to take him was the hardest thing he's ever had to do. It was tough on me and my parents as well as I've always considered her pets my nieces and nephews but I'm glad after only seeing him a couple times a year(if he wasn't hiding under the bed) for the last five years I was able to spend alot of time with him in his last month of life.

Inferno - Your sister should know that what she is done is show the greatest love of all. She has stopped his suffering. She stopped his pain. I am very proud of her and your brother in law. Tell them that. They also have my deepest condolences.

I know I hate when this thread gets bumped, but I wanted to post a little tribute.

My wife and I adopted Mojo 3 years ago and sadly had to put him down today. Suddenly lost his appetite and was lethargic last week, so we took him in and got him on antibiotics and an appetite stimulant. He had a significant fever.

He was doing better for a couple days, but then stopped eating entirely despite appearing interested in food. Took him to emerg today and his fever was still present, which it definitely shouldn't have been so they x-rayed him as well.

They found a lot of fluid in his abdomen, which along with everything else pointed to the "wet" version of FIP (Feline Infectious Peritonitis), which sounds like the worst random disease a cat can get.

My wife is especially devastated as she's never gone through this before with a pet. He was only 5 sadly.

Sorry to hear that. It sounds so sudden. Better than a long-suffering illness, but a tough loss nonetheless.

Default Euthanasia and your pet

I’m devastated to be bumping this thread. My 7 year old cat Ember passed away this afternoon very suddenly and unexpectedly. She was 100% her normal self yesterday but this morning was off and wouldn’t eat so I brought her to the emergency vet clinic. They did blood work and the news was very bad. She had multiple things going on, severe anemia, diabetic ketoacidosis, possibly pancreatitis, the treatment would be very involved and the vet didn’t give her a very good chance that she would recover so I made a decision to put her down. I’m so sad and feeling very guilty and in shock at how suddenly this happened. I’m really going to miss her very quirky personality.
