Calgary played a terrific game and came away with a well deserved and hard earned win. It is unfortunate that they could not have ended the game in regulation, but there should be very little criticism or concern from fans coming out of this one.
I disagree on that point. In the third period they stopped using the agressive forechecking that gave the Flames so much success in the first two periods. For whatever reason they chose to stop playing that and decided to play a more defensive style to protect the lead. Dump in pucks and peel back.

I would assume Stajan would be one, since he's been in and out of the lineup. Also, Frolik.

Have to get shots off quickly and accurately. Hamilton and Monahan are the only guys that are really able to do that consistently (Stone tries, I'll give him that). Not enough pure shooters so we're left with endless passing or a turnover off a weak wrister that's blocked or deflected cause the opponent has time to get in front of it.

We could use Iggy and a time machine.
If you are talking about hard wristers, Ferland and Jankowski can shoot. Gio can shoot. Frolik has a decent shot. Backlund used to, but I'm not sure what happened.

I think the all the PK units have been playing lights out since that Detroit game. With Frolik going down Brouwer has moved up to his position to play with Backlund. Say what you what about Brouwer but after some early struggles he is really contributing to the PK.

I was going to look for some stats since the Detroit game but on the NHL stats page I can't seem to find the stats for PKGA anymore. Could have sworn it was there in previous season.

Bottom line the PK is winning us games.

Great win last night. I don't feel the officiating was that bad tonight well not as bad as the Anaheim game.

Great win, however the Flames really need to stop with all of the 3 point games.

The loser point will hurt .....

Not exactly. This was not entirely within the Flames control because they were not carrying the puck as often. The more frequent zone clears and reduction of forechecking is a product of chasing the other team in your zone, which is what happened in the third period. It happened because the Wild are a good team who can control the play for extended periods of time.

My point is that when two good teams are playing one of them is never going to dominate the play from wire-to-wire. There will be significant ebbs and flows, and Minnesota’s urgency in the third had a huge effect on making it much more difficult for the Flames to maintain their forecheck.

They didn't lose in regulation though...

Probably should have lost in regulation if we had a half decent powerplay.

Stajan is still out there but with Bennett.

I assume Brouwer, however i'd like to know for sure.

Oh yeah it was OT. Okay then, seventh home loss. Only Vegas and Dallas have fewer losses.

Tough crowd.

I'm loving the play of Kulak. After a bit of a rocky start, he's is definitely the best fit for the #6 D, and likely will be able to move up the chart down the road. He's completely stolen the spot from Bart. You almost never notice or hear his name during the game, which is pretty much exactly what you want from someone in his role.

The Flames D is really starting to gel. I think they could be utilized a bit better offensively. But at the same time, I'll take a D that limits chances and keeps the GAA ~2/game, over a high scoring D that gives up higher quality chances.

I was talking about one timers or turning a pass into a shot very quickly.

Plenty of decent wristers on the team but few to none with that Jarome-like accuracy on the one timer. The point was the passing is fine on the PP but guys always seem to handle the pass before making a shot, allowing penalty killers to get in the lane or block the shot.

Not many people read much into +/- but his +11 is behind only Kucherov and Stamkos in the top 10 point getters so far this season.

At the same time, only Tavares and McDavid have less points on the power play in that top 10 group.

5 on 5, he's one of the best producers in the NHL so far this year.
