"The suggestion that our events should be marketed as 'adult only' entertainment illustrates the disconnect between what people THINK social nudity is about versus what social nudity is ACTUALLY about," it said.
Events are also planned for Feb. 11 and March 11.
Naturist groups across Canada say they have been renting public pools for private swimming events for years, despite the recent controversy in Calgary.

If they felt there was an actual public safety issue, they would either make an official statement or find some way to shut it down.

Also, if they were soooooo concerned about minors being nude in front of adults, they’d be concerned about the change rooms at pools and gyms, but I doubt they’ve made any sort of statement about those either.

What's stopping them from going to the pools or beaches already?

How big of a problem is pedo's at the nudist beaches that we already have in the country? Is Calgary different, and a city that has a higher concentration of pedophiles that can't control themselves when a piece of cloth is no longer on the skin?

If you morally object to it, or take issue for whatever reason, that's fair. No argument. But if you're bringing up the law...actually probably good idea to know the law. At least point to some section that would make this illegal before brandishing as such.

I understand that it is not against the law to be nude anywhere in Canada pretty much. But in much the same way that photography is not allowed in this event, an exception to the norm in Canada, I would think kids shouldn't be allowed either. And I'm not saying this thinking kids are going to be exposed to pedophiles. I just think that some kids might be uncomfortable about this because it's normal to be uncomfortable about public nudity, and not understand that they have a right to say no.

You're right. There are several nude beaches in Canada. But the reality is, it's not a normal thing. It's been 27 years since we legally established that women can legally walk around topless yet hmmmm they don't seem to be taking advantage of that freedom.

Yeah, that's probably the most disturbing idea in the thread. The very people charged with protecting our children from harm and dangers are concerned with an event - fair enough. But they are doing nothing? Time they find a new career then. Of course, if they actually exist.

There's naturalists all over Canada, including Alberta, that have operated this way for decades. The only reason this gained traction was some person found it online, posted it on Reddit and it caused a media frenzy because it was a slow news day. Maybe a bit to do with the public facility being used for it, but meh, that's not really the main concern people are bringing up when it comes to the dangers to children.

Are there stats that show pedophiles are at all likely to try something at a nudist event? How come nobody is trying to keep children from attending church if people are genuinely concerned about the risk of pedophiles?

Well you understand completely wrong because you once again have no idea of the law.

Criminal Code 174 explicitly bans public nudity and nudity on private areas so as to be seen by the public. It's been challenged, but not changed.

It's one of the few (if only) law that requires consent of the Attorney General to proceed though.

Of course I take no issue with the stance that you think it should be 18+, that's fair and your very reasonable opinion. But don't bring up the legality and continuously misrepresent the law if you're not going to provide at least some justification for it.
