Gulutzan needs to take some accountability as well, if he has identified that his veteran guys are playing poorly, don’t continue to put them out with 2 min left in the game or on the power play. #brouwer

Exactly. He is just as much to blame. Who keeps the A on Brouwer?

I went to a coaching clinic and had a long talk with a couple of CFL coaches.
I actually asked them about coaches temper tantrums.
There are two types of them
Spontaneous - The team is slumping, the players aren't working hard, and the practice is dogsh%t. Basically this one is about the coach letting off steam Usually these temper tantrums don't do much for the players motivation. This is where the only way to fix the team takes coaching. Change strategy, change lineups, cut or demote a player to encourage the others.
Planned - The team is doing well, things seem to be going well, this is a hedge point to get ahead of a complacency issues. As one of the coaches told me, it doesn't matter if a practice or game is going well or not, it might be the best practice every, but the coach has given the "Hey watch this shyt" warning to his other coaches. Then during the practice the coach loses it, he will literally stop the practice and let the players have it and tell them that they didn't play well in the last couple of games, and they're practicing like they're the Stanley Cup Champions, and that BS isn't going to fly and the attitude has to change.
This is also known as the Scotty Bowman. Its used to keep the players on thier toes.
Whichever one this one was. Whether spontaneous, or planned, I don't know.
But good form on the stick fling.
My guess is this was more or less planned, win or lose yesterday and really nothing to do with the drill they were even doing.
A culmination of frustration and realizing he had to start projecting his frustration to push some buttons on players, and previous methods aren't working, as well as laying down the law...because the law was likely laid down to him from above too.
The Hamilton move and probably the shut down of Jagr also part of that regain of control of the situation.
No problem with any of it, he's showing some emotion and making sure the guys know who is in charge, and the public nature of it and all the clips its going to be around isn't a coincidence either to make sure it's out there for everyone to see.

If the players arent executing in practice or are phoning practice in you have to hold them accountable.
It doesnt matter if they just beat the Stanley Cup champs 10-0 if they're sloppy in practice you do what you have to do to get their heads in the game.

If you thought this season would have a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.
Reminded me of Mike Yeo's blowup, he was fired about four weeks later. For some reason as soon as I saw it I saw that and thought, "I wonder if he planned the blowup". Hope it worked on the boys, I like it though, light a fire.
Every last one of the players grew up playing hard, practicing hard, and getting to the show. On their way, I'd be willing to bet that every one of them has had the riot act read to them by a coach. Losing the room or not, I believe it's up to someone like Gio, who apparently has a tremendous amount of respect with his teammates, to using this as a rallying point and be the buffer between coach and players.
A good leader (Gio) will rally his troops behind what his commander (GG) says, and if the room is as solid as many say it is within, then there shouldn't be any issue. They proved they can win with the system that GG has implemented, so I don't think it would be as much of a buy in by the team.
Just my 2 cents.
FWIW, every team i ever played competitive soccer or hockey for, always had at least a couple moments where the coach loses it. We always rallied.
Both Loubardias and Steinberg said that at the start of practice Gulutzan congratulated the team on their win last night and asked them to have a good practice. They did not have a good practice.

He makes mention of seeing "one good game from some of you !@#$ing veterans".
That's a clear call out of Brouwer and Stajan specifically, because there's no way you can call out any of the other players for only having one good game.
The one good game thing is obviously Brouwer
Some of you wont be happy with GG no matter what...its mostly his fault? so he should yell at himself?
This has likely happened before behind closed doors but better late than never...we blew through how many coaches in the past because of the country club atmosphere.

I saw his mannerisms and heard his voice. I am not convinced.
he could have lit a player on fire and you wouldn't be convinced...
first line took a few weeks off scoring goals, team struggled. They are scoring again, team is winning.
Players are the ones playing the games...their play and effort is 95% of the equation. We all become such fanboys of the players we find the easy scape goat. Either the coach or marginal 4th liner.
its the natural thing to do, all teams fans do it

Loved that he called out the veteran players for not pulling their weight. One good game doesn’t excuse you from working hard in practice. Hopefully the young kids understand that this is an everyday league and you have to bring your best effort every game and practice so you don’t become as jaded as some of our veteran players. Would hate to see some of these young guys become entitled just because they signed a long term contract and have become unmovable so they just dog it all the time.

Fair enough. Thats perfectly legit.
Consistency has been a huge chunk of this team's 'Achilles' Heel' so for them to 'take the practice off' just because they won last night is totally unacceptable and while I'm a huge Gulutzan detractor I cant fault him for taking them to task on that score.
You dont get the next day off just because you won.

Let me put on my tinfoil hat for a moment and suggest that not only was this premeditated, it was done knowing that cameras were rolling and it would hit the internet in a heartbeat.
It's one thing to be yelled at by your coach in practice, it's another for the clip of it to go viral.
If these guys are pros, they'll show some pride and raise their game.
Now on the other hand, if the team doesn't respond to this and comes out flat - as is too often the case - then the writing is definitely on the wall for GG.

Is that really how Gully sees this team? Brouwer has 10 points in 40 games, hmmm maybe he's not the kind of guy you put out there to try and close out a win. Jagr has more points/game than Brouwer.

I don't think it was planned as in he was going to do it no matter what. It may have been planned as in "if they pull this again, I will lose it." In which case he's still legit mad.
The ones where it's sometimes a total act are, I think, from the real veteran coaches like Bowman or Sutter.
