I like the stick throw for good measure. I'm glad the coach feels the urgency to not let complacency creep in after a couple of wins. Kind of concerning why any players on this team would feel good about things enough to put things on cruise control unless they are ignorant of their place in the standings. Lots of work to do.

I agree with those guessing the veteran comment is being directed at Brouwer, who was always notorious for putting in poor efforts in practice. Unbelievable the guy got an A to start with and has kept it.

Obviously it doesn't work in a corporate or office setting or something but there's lots of jobs where sometimes you need to yell to get people to get them to pull their heads out of their asses.
Ever seen Gordon Ramsey? That's nothing compared to real chefs, for example.

I'm no fan of Brouwer but I think that is highly unfair. I doubt Gulutuzan loses his cool simply becuase of Brouwer. It is likely a couple key players that are clearly only going through the motions.

I don’t get people comparing this to the “real world”. Nothing about being a professional athlete is similar to working a 9-5 corporate position. As someone who has coached different levels of sport this is a tool to refocus guys sometimes. It’s good to see some fire in the coach. If this was happening every couple weeks then I would question his leadership but he is doing it at the right time, while the team is on a bit of a high, and calling out the people everyone on here feels need to be called out.
Now its a matter of seeing how the players choose to respond

This team has a bad habit of complacency after wins, so probably acted liked like everything was hunky dory again.

NHl contrivance law states that you ride them hard after wins and tiptoe around the issues after losses.

He knows his time is coming. This team would have more wins with a better coach. They showed how good they can be against the Kings. If they played more like lastnight i would have no problem with GG.

Recall how flat the Flames showed up in the Montreal game before x-mas after beating the Blues. Montreal looked like the best team in the league that night. Part of the win one, lose one pattern the Flames are in is getting too high on themselves after a good outing.
This could be a culture issue rather then coaching. Everyone in this thread loves the emotion from GG, but recall Todd McLellan doing something like this in practice up north before playing the Flames in early December. It worked temporarily as they won 7-5 win against the Flames. But yelling at adults only goes so far, because to be successful in this league these guys have to buy in and work hard every day and not have to be yelled at to do it. The Oilers then proceeded to continue to oil after the Flames game.
On the TSN video GG asked 'Who's in charge here?', which could imply he's lost the room. I hope that if they fire GG they also shake up the roster because the players have already been sent the wrong message from management about accountability. Bouma, Gaudreau, & Monahan show up late for practice after the superbowl two years ago, Hartley benches them for the next game and then he gets fired at the end of the year.

Any comments on what transpired to trigger this in practice?
Given that the media are at the dome at most if not all practice days, thus does not seem like a every day occurrence.
I saw on twitter that since December this team has win 2 then lose 3 pattern.
It's disappointing to consider that they feel good enough about themselves and start to let up after no real lengthy success. Glad to hear the coach do his part to ensure there isn't a comfort level kicking in and keeping them on their toes.

The Flames players seem to be the problem in that they expect to be a good team, without you know that whole going out and actually doing the things that they need to do in order to win thing.
The Flames on paper are the most complete team in terms of talent throughout the lineup in the entire NHL. There are few black holes that are being filled by players of Bartkowski's talent level. Most teams have at least a couple of guys like that somewhere in the lineup.
The problem is the team's lack of attention to detail and I was saying last month in our show that perhaps we need a new coach, one that can basically yell at the team to try and get them from being in their own way. The lazy practice, which is what I'm assuming caused today's outburst is emblematic of the problem the players have. They are being coddled too much and need a good boot to the behind to get them going.
Gulutzan did a good thing and hopefully the team responds in a positive fashion tomorrow. They need the two points badly.

As far as tirades go the profanity laced ones are my favourite. That one was pretty good. Pretty good.

Cements for me that this is more of a player issue than a coaching issue. I think true contending or great teams hold each other accountability and don't get complacent when they are no where near the goals they set for themselves. Feel like this type of attitude has been around this organization for way too long.

This should have happened months ago. The fact it's taken this long leads me to think this is a desperation move by a coach who's leash is getting really short.
