I think they should start by hiring Sutter as a 'Special Assistant to the Head Coach' where everytime Gulutzan does something stupid or stupidly does nothing Sutter slaps him on the back of the head.
It would really spice up the excitement of this season watching Gulutzan get slapped a dozen times a game.

No way Sutter goes for assistant coach of any kind. That would be a demotion for him.

Oh no, I mean after slapping Gulutzan for a few weeks he'd eventually quit and Sutter would take over the Head Coach job.
Its abut expressive creativity. The Oilers raised the bar with Skype and Eakins in general, then the Panthers and Gallant, you've got to up the creativity when firing coaches now.
Plus if he quits we wouldnt have to keep paying him, depending on how that translates with Alberta's new labour laws.

Two reasons why I think he may consider returning to the Flames if they showed interest:
1. He said after he was fired if he coached again it would have to be the right fit for him and his family and that it didn't matter if the team was a contender or not. If he returned to Calgary he would be close to home.
2. He's cheered for the Flames in the playoffs. To me that means he likes the organization and holds no ill feelings towards them for relieving him of his GM duties.

I don't know, the Flames becoming advanced stats darlings vs the eye test that shows something different reminds me of when Edmonton hired Tyler Delow and tried to become Corsi Kings. They did.........as an outlier without the wins to match.
I'm always weary of coaching a team to improve/excel at advanced stats vs coaching a roster to be the best they can be and to win games which almost always has good advanced stats to match your wins.
Correlation vs causation and all that.

I think it's too soon to say where this team will end up but a coaching change mid-season is a panic move that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. It will set all the players back into trying to learn a new system.
Last year the Flames were a top team from the all star break out but ran into bad luck against Anaheim in the playoffs. I am holding out hope that things improve again this year and that come April opinions of GG could be quite different then they are now.

Part of me thinks that "the perfect situation" for Sutter would mean some say in personnel to make sure he can do it his way. I don't think he can get that here in Calgary.

Was part of the bad luck in Anaheim that they were a better hockey team and swept us?

I won't be one of them. My faith in him has only gotten worse for over the last year. Even if he survives and they do make the playoffs I hope he's replaced.

I think they were better, but not "swept us" better. Goaltending played a big role.

I feel the same way, to me, I'll take it a step further...I want him replace even if we go to the cup final.

Lol. This is the battiest thing I've seen on this site in the last week, a time that I think represents the high level of CP pure bat eyed crazy drivel. Way to drive your point home though, all it took was shedding whatever perception of sanity that still remained.

And there it is. Like I have pointed out before, for some posters it does not matter at this point what the man does or accomplishes. they are going to want him gone simply because it is the hill they are going to die on no matter what.

Fact of the matter is Glen Gulutzan has accomplished exactly Jack and ####. And Jack has just about left town.

Paging "thispostisterrible" to thank this.
What is wrong with people...
You mean to tell me if the team gets to the cup final, you are firing the coach?
Has that even happened in the history of the NHL?
Holy hyperbole.
BTW, I am fully in favor of firing the coach if we miss the playoffs this year so I'm not defending the coach by any means -> but if he takes the team to the cup finals, I would be on board with extending his contract!

Ummm..yes and no. A team can get hot at the right time and get to the final, this doesn't mean that GG is a good coach. And if the team don't replace him because the team made the SC final, it'll be same grief all over again next season.
The bold part just simple not true, for myself anyway. What he has done in 1 and a half season with this team, he hasn't shown that he is competent in being a head coach. His game preparation is bad, in game adjustment is non existing and his stubbornness of starting the 4th line at home.
The same can be said on the flip side, for some posters it doesn't matter what the man does or failed, they are going to want to keep him because it's the hill they want to die on?

Though I don't remember seeing anyone being so blatant about it as you. Think about it. If they make the finals, you think it's getting hot at the right time. So yeah, they'll win *despite* the coach, and lose *because* of him.
Honestly, I'm not overly sure about keeping him. I think the timing has to be properly considered if he's going to be replaced. But "logic" like yours is mind bottling.

I wouldn't go that far. If they go on a nice run you let him have his last year.
Firing him after that would be a dick move. But if it's another first round exit he should be let go.
