Re-establish a decent gym routine and stop eating so much junk food. I slacked off for half of November and December, need to get back into the groove.

I never did resolutions, I always said if i'm gonna make a change or challenge myself, it can be any time of the year.
Last year I decided to make three resolutions, two of which I didn't stick to, but one I did. And that was cycling once a week. While there were 3 weeks during the year I didn't cycle, I managed 5,000km on the bike and it has become my main mode of transportation.
This year I want to build on that and have a collection of resolutions:
- Run 5km / week
- Cycle 7,000 km
- Read War & Peace (1 chapter / day)
- Reduce my caffine intake (have been getting headaches on weekends, think this is a root cause)
- Reduce my alcohol intake
- Explore meditation
- Study Spanish
There are a ton of things in here, and I won't accomplish them all, some of them are not very specific, but they are all things that I can introduce into my routine that will bring me more enjoyment and make me a healthier person.

I'm going to try for 10,000km on the bike this year, to match KTrains from last year. will also try to improve my diet and actually lose weight for a change. Way too fat for a guy who rode 6000km this past year.

New Year's Resolutions?
I tried to pick a few this year but keep them somewhat focused. I tend to get distracted if I have too many goals.
- Bike 10,000km
- Do a 200km bike ride
- Launch a side project

Get back into the 3D industry and get the hell out of The Pas, Manitoba ASAP for the third and hopefully final time. Family is the only thing I have here. Atleast I start the new year with a job until something comes up.

For me, it's important to set measurable goals. I either do it or I don't.
I can't say "Eat healthier this year" as a goal. Some days I will, some I won't. There's no way for me to tell if I've really accomplished that. If I say, "reduce my body fat by 3%" it's a measurable goal that should force me to eat healthier and exercise more this year.

The "don't mention it to anyone" thing is dumb. I put my goals out there so others can help me or keep me to them.

Considering this is the New Year's Resolution thread, and you're supposed to post your goals, this should be the place to do it.

More of a hope than a resolution, but I want to try to hit 2000 km running this year.
Realized last year that it's better to stay injury-free than push yourself to hit your goals when it comes to running.

My goal is to take a more focused approach to playing guitar.
I've been playing since high school, but I've been exceptionally undisciplined during that time. I can chug my way through the rhythm section from 'Master of Puppets', but if you ask me to strum along with 'Knockin on Heavens Door' or 'Wonderwall' I'll come up blank.
So my goal is to learn 12 songs end-to-end (with solos) by the end of the year.

I don't usually set resolutions but I am going to give it a go this year.
1. Run at least 5km a week.
2. Fix my acoustic guitar and learn 3 new songs this year
3. Do more around the house (mainly paint the kitchen and main living area, bedrooms and bathroom, plus put in new flooring, curtains and furniture/shelves in our living room)
4. Only eat out on weekends and to have a meal plan during the week (ie no more last minute planning/eating poorly because we are all too busy)
5. To get out of town at least once a month, visiting family, fishing, hiking, hunting, snowboarding, something other than just moping around the house.
It is a long list and I really hope to stick to 1 and 4 mainly to work on my health, the others are a plus and will make our lives better in the end. We will see next year how well I did but I really hope to accomplish at least a few of these.

It's interesting how stuff like this works. For me I've learned over the years that I do better privately. For whatever reason putting a big, audacious goal out there makes me anxious when I falter even a little. Soon after that whatever I was trying to do falls off a cliff.
One of my main goals in 2017 was to read more. Traditionally I can't read 3-4 pages without falling asleep, so getting through books has always been an odd challenge for me. I wanted to walk more too, so I picked up an Audible subscription and became addicted in a great way.
I spent a lot of my reading on human behaviour and habits as I love psychology and have several bad habits that drive me insane. I actually feel like I found some reasonable advice on how to overcome a few troublesome issues, and I'd like to focus in 2018 on practicing those.
One bit of advice is what KTrain mentioned. It's harder to hit a fluffy goal than a defined goal that comes along with a plan. It's great that you want to lose 15lbs, or increase your income... but how? I like the idea of getting weird with progress tracking.
I really enjoyed The Power of Habit by Charles Duhigg ( http://charlesduhigg.com/the-power-of-habit/). He uses himself as an example as he tries to lose 10lbs that he'd put on. Identifying his afternoon of snacking as a big problem, he goes fairly deep down the rabbit hole. It's not enough to say "stop eating garbage at 2". He tries to determine what it is that encourages him to eat at 2 (Boredom? Loneliness? Blood sugar? Need for a walk?). Over a period of weeks he takes extensive notes and subtly replaces individual behaviours until he narrows down why he's eating in the first place.

I just want to brag a little, four weeks after "resolving". With a lot of help I have changed my lifestyle (habits/ diet) gotten a lot of excercise and dropped a lot of weight. I'm going to give a little plug to Arbonne here as the wife and I enlisted in a "28 Day Body Reset" (she did one in the fall as well) and the results were very good. Biggest result is that I lost over 22lbs during the four week period (sadly I was 277lbs when I started) and am down to 255lbs. My goal was get to under 250 but I also thought that I was only 265 to begin with so I'm still calling it a success. My wife lost 11 lbs after previously losing 17 lbs back in September.
I don't necessarily agree with the Arbnne philosophy of considering certain foods "toxins" but the results speak for themselves. We cut out all sugars, gluten, dairy, fruits, and processed foods, among other things, cut back on meat and elimated alcohol. It is also excercise driven and I averaged 45 mins of excercise every day, you also have to drink minimum of 4 litres of water per day and incorporate Arbonne products into your daily diet. There is also no limit on the consumption of vegetables. It is tough as it is a lot of work, Sunday nights were all focused on "meal prep" which was essentially chopping, washing and peeling vegetables for two hours. We cooked every dinner from scratch, which I enjoy but some nights it isn't so easy unless you want salad for dinner and didn't eat out once. I did cheat twice, one day my work brought in pizza (I only had two slices instead of my normal 4 or 5) and one day the Hutterites brought us in some buns and homemade salami.
We are off on vacation starting Friday for ten days but the plan is to continue with the exercise and restricting our diets when we return. Likely doing another one of these programs in April or May. I feel great and kind of slim at 255 (believe it or not) but I want to get under 240 by July 1.
On a work note I should be named Salesman of the month for January so I'm happy to say that personally 2018 is off to a great start.

Mine was simple: (19 years later) Return to my military weight and physique. I have been on Keto for the last 4 weeks and have dropped 18pounds and now I’m starting to do strength and endurance training. I need to drop about 8-10 more pounds and I’ll be able to fit into my uniform again!
Although this diet is high fat low carbs, this diet choice is also incredible. There is a great podcast by Joe Rogan about Keto and its benifits. When I decided to get at it, I was about to go on a juice diet for three weeks and then go from there. But my cousin, who is of health nut, put me on to Keto and all I could think was “I get to cook? “. I was sold and it’s done wonders.
