In Canada it's very rare for a cop to be shot and killed

2017 saw the 2nd lowest number of officer fatalities in 58 years. Leading cause of death was traffic: 47 deaths. 44 officers died from gunshots.

Conversely police shot and killed 976 Americans in 2017 (so far, by Monday it should be 979).
In Canada, as far as I can tell only one police officer was shot and killed in the line of duty in 2017. Likewise, the best source for shooting deaths by police in Canada is suspect (Wikipedia) but it seems 4 Canadians were shot and killed by police officers in 2017.

"Multiple deputies" were down on Sunday after police responded to a call of an active shooter situation
in Littleton, Colo., a residential area south of Denver, according to the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
"Update, we have multiple deputies down, no update on their status. The scene remains active and please avoid the area," the sheriff's office said on Twitter.

If your heart stops at the rate that this thread is bumped, maybe you should see a doctor

Why? the standard NRA argument for owning a gun is self protection, clearly guns don't protect anyone from a damn thing

Yes NRA, guns do kill people as I would bet my house if there was no gun in that house that family would be alive today. Just another senseless loss of life because of America's love of violence and guns
Family pic, Scott is in the middle (blue shirt) and the Century Arms semi-automatic assault rifle used.

New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, only behind California. Regulation can’t prevent everything from happening. Not in a nation where there are more guns than people.
